Windows Vista – Upgrading Not For The Faint-Hearted

If you were brave enough to install Vista yesterday, how did it go?  My experience has been a bit of a mixed bag.  Although Vista itself is running fine and was installed installed within 25 minutes, getting my software and hardware to work has been a real pain.

The really annoying piece of kit I can’t get to work is my Hauppauge Win-TV Nova T-500 TV card.  iTunes has also been acting a bit strange with Vista, and some of my tracks seem to have disappeared from my library.

My mouse also doesn’t work properly with Vista.  I really need to get my mouse working as I love it as it has volume, play/pause and FF/Rew buttons on i, which are essential for listening to music or watching TV, and it’s also moulded well for left-handers.  In fact, I love it so much I bought 3 of them so that I would have spares just in case it isn’t available for sale in the future!

Here are the items I haven’t been able to get to work with Windows Vista so far:

Software (haven’t installed most of my apps as I wanted to focus on hardware and tuning):

  • iTunes – buggy
  • Speedfan – support coming soon.  Need this ASAP as my machine sounds like a tornado with all the fans running at 100%
  • 3DMark06
  •  ATITool
  • KazaaLite Codecs

Hardware Not Working With Windows Vista

  • Logitech Pro 4000 Quickcam (Logitech not even working on driver)
  • Logitech MediaPlay Mouse (Vista support coming)
  • Hauppage Win-TV Nova T-500 TV Card
