Review Of iBackup Online Backup Service

A nice scheduling wizard was also available, however there wasn’t an option to limit how much of my bandwidth it used up which was a shame as it meant I couldn’t really use my PC while it was backing up.

I did a 177MB backup using the wizard which took 30 mins at 384kbps (I have 10Mbps downstream). However, if I had tried to backup my critical music library this would have taken me (gets out excel) 3.7-4 days, assuming I didn’t want to use my connection for anything else. This is the main reason why I’ve never signed up for an online backup service, and instead I’ve just bought an external 1TB Lacie drive for £230/$460 i.e the price of 2 months subscription to iBackup, and I’d still have over 800GB of space spare to store other files.

Until online backup services get a lot cheaper and also broadband upload speeds start matching download speeds, I’d recommend most users just purchase an external hard drive to secure those vital files.

Have you ever used iBackup or another online backup service?
