WidSets – Create Customised Widgets For Your Mobile

Widsets Logo

A campaign started today on my blog from blogads which I’m very happy with as it’s perfect for my blog and good content. The campaign is from WidSets, which allows you to create your own mobile widgets, which seem to be the latest blog craze, featuring any blog content or feed that you like.

I signed up for the service which was nice and simple as WidSets even sent an WAP push SMS to my mobile with the link to download the client. It even downloaded a customised client for my Nokia N80 which was another bonus mark for WidSet.

Once I’d installed the client I went back to the WidSet website to setup my preferences. Immediately I was presented with nice clear instructions and a wizard showing me how to drag and drop widgets into my ‘Widset Shelf’ for my phone to access. There’s a library of pre-configured widgets to choose from, but I went to the ‘Studio’ first to create my own.

This was simple enough, although it wouldn’t let me finish unless I uploaded a logo for my widget which is a bug. In fact, there are a few bugs in the userflow which will probably be ironed out once WidSet gets out of beta. To add my Widset Widget just click on the button below. It’ll be interesting if any of these start appearing in my Feedburner count:

After I’d created my own widget I was struggling to see what made WidSet any different to a plain old mobile RSS reader, but then I looked in the widget library where there were lots of RSS widgets, but also games, Flickr image feeds, forums, travel guides.I think this what is going to set WidSet apart from similar mobile services, as well as the very cool and easy to use interface. I might have to place a professional call to them to discuss a partnership with my ISP, as this is a very cool service.
