Wikipedia To “Run Out Of Money in 3-4 Months”

Florence Devourad, chairwoman of the Wikipedia Foundation, warned yesterday morning at LIFT that Wikipedia is running out of cash, and things are becoming critical for the free service:

“At this point, Wikipedia has the financial ressources to run its servers for about 3 to 4 months. If we do not find additional funding, it is not impossible that Wikipedia might disappear”

When i read this quote I took it with a pinch of salt. I for one won’t be donating any cash to keep Wikipedia afloat as it would be very easy to fix Wikipedia’s situation - just add an ad or two to the site. The sheer volume of traffic that Wikipedia gets one discretely placed ad will more than cover the running costs.
