Alexa Introduces Localised Traffic Rankings – I’m Massive in India!

I tend to check my Alexa stats once a week or so as although they aren’t accurate some advertisers do use Alexa’s stats to track which sites to place adverts on, particularly the 3 month traffic rank average.

I noticed yesterday morning that Alexa have just added new data that shows your traffic rank per country, in addition to the overall rank. I found my stats very interesting, and I was stunned to see how big Connected Internet is in India:

My Alexa Rank

Now I don’t know if this is genuine, or if Ajay and Thilak are the only bloggers in India, but either way I’d like to think that I could walk into a bar or club in India and somebody will have heard of me!

I also found it interesting to see that my UK number is so high. The only reason I can think of for this is that Google places me high in Google UK search results because of my .co.uk address. This has convinced me even more that this site would be even more successful if I owned www.connectedinternet.com, as I’m certain that Google would give me higher slots on Google.com if I had a .com address :-(

Let me know if your updated Alexa stats provide you with similar insights into your site’s performance.

Ajay and Thilak are not the only Indian bloggers… and if you walk into a bar, unless it is filled with bloggers, you’re chances of being talked about are miniscule!
Well, my chances are just about the same!

The irony of my sites is that my maximum users are from USA!

Same with mine, Major of viewers come from US, followed by India and UK. I think chances of being ranked for .com or .co.uk in organic results are pretty much the same

I don’t think so. The traffic for my other experimental site which is a .com address is so heavily skewed towards the US, I think it does have an impact. It makes sense as Google will assume that a .co.uk site will have more relevant content for the UK.

Although, you could still be righit in that I’m not disadvantaged by not having a .com address and in fact I could be actually benefiting from having a .co.uk address!
