Can Joost Replace YouTube As The Leading Online Video Site?
Everton | Feb 22, 2007 | Comments
I read two posts today one after the other that made me realise I haven’t been paying enough attention to Joost. Even though Joost is still only in beta thousands of people a day are trying to join (Sign-up is here). They also managed to sign a deal with Viacom to display its content, which YouTube failed to do.
But the real reason I’m going to keep an eye on Joost is I didn’t realise just how many big players they have got on board. I knew all about Niklas Zennstrm and Janus Friis who made more money than some third world countries selling Skype to eBay. But, I didn’t know that they’d also recruited some other powerful industry players which is how they managed to clinch the Viacom deal.
Could Joost be the first online video company to bring premium content to the masses with the blessings of the big industry players?
