Maximising Text Link Ad Revenues
Text-Link-Ads has become one of the most popular schemes for bloggers to earn a bit of cash. No matter what size your site is, there’s a very good chance that Text Link Ads will be able to sell a few links for you ranging from $10 -250 depending on how big your site is.
However, your blog (hopefully) over time will grow which would normally mean that you can charge more per Text Link on your site. However, Text Link Ads don’t actually work this way. If you want to ensure that your Text Link Ad income continues to grow as your blog grows then you need to do the following:

Email Text Link Ads And Ask Them To Increase Your Rates
Text Link Ads don’t have a smart pricing system that will automatically increase your rates if your ads prove popular and sell out. Conversely, they also won’t reduce your rates to ensure that your inventory is sold out if your ads aren’t attractive at their set price.
To ensure that the optimal price is set for your blog you need to email Text Link Ads using their contact form. I tend to do this once a month based on how well my links are doing, and so far I’ve managed to increase my price per link in steps from $40 to $150.
Remove Old Advertisers
One problem that JohnTP and I discovered this week is that Text Link Ad’s policy is that once an ad is purchased at a certain price, say $40, then that advertiser can continue renewing their ad at that price for as long as they want. So, increasing your ad price won’t apply to these advertisers. This can mean that if you have say a few permanent tenants who keep renewing, then they will continue paying the ‘old money’ price for your blog and not your new price that reflects your blog’s current value.
The solution to this is again to email Text Link Ads to ask them to notify advertisers that if they want to renew again they will have to pay your current link price, otherwise they will be removed. Hopefully, they will still renew but if they don’t then if you’ve set your price correctly you will hopefully get a replacement advertiser who will pay you the correct market value of your links.

True in the short term, but you are potentially losing cash every month you have advertisers squatting. In the long run, you should make money. That’s why I told TLA to boot 7 of my links, although they got it wrong and booted them instantly rather than when they came up for renewal. However, losing these 7 has only cost me just over $100 so all I need to do is sell 2 links this month to recoup that cash and still have 5 more free.
If my links don’t start selling in a week I’ll drop the price, but at least this way I’ll have that option..
I think Ajay’s right that you should only do this if all your links are sold as mine were as it’s better to at least get some cash for your vacant slots than none at all.

The risk of removing the old advertisers can only be taken if you have all your adunits full.
In my case I still have vacant units and I can’t risk the already existing advertisers. It will cause a drop in my income if they don’t renew.

Yeah, I’ve had them increase my link prices a few times. I didn’t discover until later that I couldn’t remove advertisers, though. I didn’t know you could have TLA email them and raise the price, though.
In general, I tend to have an open ad slot most of the time, so I haven’t needed to worry about it.

Trying to increase your price might cause a loss of advertisers. I never knew that advertisers can continue renewing their ads at the same price. This is totally wrong. Does anyone have experience as an advertiser at TLA?

These are some great tips. I just sent off an e-mail to Text Link Ads, using your advice.
I think this method will work for most bloggers. When your rates increase, both you and TLA make more money. Everyone wins!
