Review Of Alternate Advertising Schemes
I’ve been working on putting in place this week some new revenue streams so that I can hopefully continue to grow my revenues throughout March. One of the areas I wanted to work on was joining some alternative ad networks to improve the quality of my alternate urls, but to also maybe replace some of my poorer performing Adsense units. I thought it might be useful to list some of the ones I’ve discovered on my travels this week.
Advolcano
I signed up for AdVolcano after seeing how successful it has been for John Chow. AdVolcano works on a Cost Per Term basis, so ads are purchased for a set period. Once publishers have set their rates for their products e.g. 1 day, 7 day and 30 day ads then using a nice queueing system advertisers can choose over what term they want to advertise, and their ad is then given the next slot in the queue.
Publishers can add multiple ad units. I’ve added one unit which I’ve positioned under my other text links in my sidebar.

Robert Sherman
Robert Sherman are a very interesting network who approached me directly which was nice. I’ve posted an example of one of their ads below (refresh the page to see another):
They are one of the largest growing advertising networks, who pay a very respectable 65% to publishers. What I find unique is that they pay you in advance e.g. they will pay you $100 to display ads. Once you’ve displayed $100 worth of ads, then they will send another payment in advance and so on.I finally got my tags yesterday so I’ve added Robert Sherman’s banners in certain positions in my site, and I’ve also changed some of my alternate url slots to display these ads - an example is running above). I haven’t changed some of my weaker adsense slots yet as I’m waiting for Robert Sherman to confirm what the actual average cpm is.
I think this is a nice scheme as basically you get the cash up-front and you can also control how fast you use up your ‘credits’.

Tribal Fusion
Tribal Fusion is a scheme I’ve been trying to hard to join for over 2 months now and frankly I’m about to give up. Their scheme was attractive as their banners are sold on a CPM basis, which makes deciding where to place them a lot easier.
Unfortunately, despite being told over the phone I’ve been accepted nothing has materialised yet. I’m getting tired of calling the US from the UK which isn’t cheap, trying to get my tags. In fact, I’ve probably spent more on calls than I’m going to make!

Adbrite
I’ve had absolutely no success with AdBrite despite trying them on a few occassions, but this isn’t to say they won’t work on other sites so I’ve added them to the list. AdBrite can supply many types of ads including video ads and interstituals. If you have had any success with AdBrite can you please share your experiences.

Chitika
I’m similarly had no joy with Chitika, although other more product-orientated sites have. In fact Chitika send Darren Rowse’s his biggest cheque each month. They have various formats and banners, including their ‘RPU’ unit which I think is definitely worth a try.

Great post, Everton! AdVolcano looks interesting.
Chitika actually works quite well for me. Over the last year I compiled some statistics of my earnings and I actually earned twice as much with Chitika compared to AdSense. For those of you considering Chitika - try it! You can check out this Chitika review for some more info.
