What Do You Think Of The New WordPress Plugin Directory?
Over the weekend WordPress launched a new official Plugin Directory, which is the new central place to find and download WordPress plugins. the new database will give a much better idea about which plugins are worth installing. But, more importantly plugin updates will be given from within the WordPress Dashboard.
There is a most popular plugin feature and I’d never heard of 3 of the plugins listed which was surprising. Does anyone use Kramer, Page Links To or No WWW? Even after reading the descriptions I can’t work out why these are in the most popular lists.

It sounds good. Now we will have just one place to look upon. But there is only one thing they better make it safe!!!

I shared my thoughts on the same.
@Ashish, you already had one place to look… wp-plugins.net

I think its a great job done on the new directory but its still lacking some intuitiveness … im guessing they tried to work with the existing wordpress code or tried to tweak bbpress into a directory.
Either way wp-plugins.net is still the biggest directory out there and ive also notices a new one at http://www.learningwordpress.com. The last one seems to have a better layout and has a better search feature compared to the other two.

I am with sharaf - it is great that there is a central place to get at the plug-ins, but, they really need to improve the “popular keywords” and search functions… I hope they are still working on it and that it does not remain stagnant.

Page links is a fabulous idea… I’ve been looking for a way to include post categories in the navigation section only using wp_list_pages (or whatever tag) and have had to make do with creating custom ’static-html’ pages which is somewhat annoying.
Not sure about the others though…

I recently used the Page Links plugin on a site (http://www.kayema.com) I created for a client. They wanted pages to appear on their navigation bar dedicated to resources, i.e. useful links, and News about their company. I realized that the best format for both of these types of entries would be as categories that would contain posts. So I created a resources and news category, and created two pages called Resources and Categories. The content of those pages is blank, and I entered the links to the Category archive pages for each page in the custom fields section as per the directions of the page links plugin. It worked beautifully - take a look!
And here’s a shameless plug: I put together a blog dedicated to monitoring and organizing all things WordPress - it’s at http://www.wordpressgarage.com. If you are looking for plugins, you can search the site, look under the Plugins category, or click on the tag related to the plugin you want. For example, if you are looking for a plugin related to posts, click on the “posts” tag in the tag cloud. Check it out, and I’m always happy to get feedback, both good and bad, so I can improve it.
And finally - I love your comments box format with the buttons above it. What is it?

I know the directory already lists the top 5 plugins, but it would be nice if one could click on ‘more…’ to find the next 5, 10, 15 etc.
