Text Link Ads Launching New WordPress Service

I just received the following email from Text Link Ads:

We have some very exciting* news for WordPress users that should be announced next week. We have a new plugin that will allow you to make more money with your blog!

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what they are selling? I’m going for a text link ad network where WordPress users get paid per impression and advertisers book campaigns by category. This would also explain why site owners can now add their sites to up to two categories.

Text Link Ads

Any other guesses? Whatever it is, it’ll be another good reason to signup or to buy ads if you haven’t already done so.

I have just been inducted into TLA, yet to sell the links.

We just sold our first link last week, not long after the inital setup. 4 spots left.

It’s kind of cool that the buyer clicked on our link from our site to buy the link, so we got the affiliate credit as well.

We also got our second affiliate credit when a blogger friend was accepted by TLA as a publisher.

Multiple sources of revenue… always a great thing.

    Have an awesome day!

Nice work Dan and Jennifer! I only manage around one sale a month which I think is poor. Developing some affiliate income is one of my projects for next month

I’ve joined TLA for quite a long time, but so far still no link sold yet. Is the new plugin like random links will appear and you’ll earn like showing CPM ads? Just my guess.

Hey Everton, yeah we’re really focusing on affiliate income.

We have quite a few affiliate programs we’re set up with now, a bunch of them being through Clickbank - and ClickBank is now catching up with out AdSense income - was just chatting some with Thilak about that over email.

We just FINALLY got OpenAds working 2 days ago, and it’s been live on the site since yesterday. it took a while because we’re so anal and couldn’t do a SIMPLE installl. NO, No, it had to be complicated. :-)

Seriously, we all know it’s ad targeting that makes or breaks all your ads… so we set up OpenAds to target specifically target ads to each of our category sections.

We’re randomly swapping out a good variety of ads, and split-testing 2 ads per product (minimum). you can see what i mean if you go to a couple pages on our site and refresh - the top ad units switch around randomly, as do the in-context ads.

We’re also doing a few targeted text ads in context after each post on the detail page - after the “read more” related articles section - same concept as ProBlogger and JohnTP.

It’s really great to actually have metrics on what locations, what ads, and what versions of ads people click on most. otherwise you’re just flying blind. I expect a significant increase in affiliate performance.

    Have an awesome day!

Hey Everton, yeah we’re really focusing on affiliate income.

I think I’ve reached the limit in terms of what I can do with ad networks so the only new sources of income available are affiliate schemes and direct sales.

I’m interested in your point about Clickbank. Are all your links under ‘we recommend’ on your site from Clickbank? how does the scheme work?

    Hey Everton,

I’ll email you more, didn’t want to make this too long. Affiliate promos are definitely a great way to add more revenue.

Clickbank is currently our main source of affliate products, but we have a few others through Commission Junction and a couple direct ones.

Until we got OpenAds running we were really flying blind and “guessing” what would convert better. and we still made sales. What i don’t like about clickbank is they don’t show you clicks, only sales. they finally introduced a way for YOU to track which of your ads generated the sale though. But now with our OpenAds server we can split test all the ads and rotate different affiliate products to see which performs better, gets more clicks, etc.

The affiliate links are spread out all over, just look for text links that stand out - top right, under each article in post list pages, on post detail pages - above, below the article.

    Have an awesome day!

I’ve struggled to find any Clickbank products that are worth promoting. Most of them seem to be pretty crappy products or spammy ebooks. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places :(
