I use MySpace the most but only because my main reason for using social networking sites is to find old friends and more people seem to have MySpace profiles than anyone else. I like the topic specific social networkings sites too. My son belongs to one for athletes because he's a bike racer and he can meet other bike racers from all over the country.

This is a great post because I am actually building a social network for Asian professionals right now. I think the appeal of any particular network is the target demographic. I had no interest in myspace for example because I found most people who are active in it were very young. I really enjoy mybloglog.com however, because I too have a blog (the creators were very smart fellows!).

I was at a time active on Hi5, but gave that up the moment I joined Facebook. Facebook is by my favorite social network, mainly due to the demographics of the place I guess. Also, ignorant users can't uglify their profiles which makes for a much cleaner, more uniform experience.

MyBlogLog all the way!!!

Seriously, we've made a lot of really great connections with other bloggers and a lot of our readers through the MyBlogLog service and the associated picture widget.

It's amazing what these guys did with a basic not-very-fancy-at-all free blog stats tracking package... they made it into a social network that you can plug into your site.

It really adds a sense of community around the site, both for you as the author and also for visitors to look and see that real people are visiting - it makes you and your site more real, not just "some online place".

Also the avatar photos are great when added to your comments through the mybloglog wordpress plugin.

Never really got into the LinkedIn thing, I think because it seemed like a somewhat costly ongoing fee to be able to connect with the people in your networks, so didn't look all that appealing after I set up the first few connections.

Facebook looks promising... I did set up my profile and managed to add a few friends, but it just feels a bit cramped to me. And "writing on someone's wall" is kinda fun, though perhaps in a "marking your territory" sort of way. :-)

Our MySpace page (linked from the links section in our blog nav bar) is pretty popular too, but it just doesn't seem to have the personal connection as far as I'm concerned.. and most of the connection requests we get are somewhat "spammy" if you will... or is this maybe a culture gap? I did just have another birthday this weekend. :-)

Have an awesome day!

Seriously, we’ve made a lot of really great connections with other bloggers and a lot of our readers through the MyBlogLog service and the associated picture widget.

It’s amazing what these guys did with a basic not-very-fancy-at-all free blog stats tracking package… they made it into a social network that you can plug into your site.

It really adds a sense of community around the site, both for you as the author and also for visitors to look and see that real people are visiting – it makes you and your site more real, not just “some online place”.

Also the avatar photos are great when added to your comments through the mybloglog wordpress plugin.

Never really got into the LinkedIn thing, I think because it seemed like a somewhat costly ongoing fee to be able to connect with the people in your networks, so didn’t look all that appealing after I set up the first few connections.

Facebook looks promising… I did set up my profile and managed to add a few friends, but it just feels a bit cramped to me. And “writing on someone’s wall” is kinda fun, though perhaps in a “marking your territory” sort of way.

Our MySpace page (linked from the links section in our blog nav bar) is pretty popular too, but it just doesn’t seem to have the personal connection as far as I’m concerned.. and most of the connection requests we get are somewhat “spammy” if you will… or is this maybe a culture gap? I did just have another birthday this weekend.

Have an awesome day!
