It’s Computer Shutdown Day Today…So I Bought A Playstation 3!

Well, not quite! I pre-ordered a Playstation 3 a few months ago on a whim to be honest, so that I wouldn’t miss out if I I decided I wanted one later. I was totally undecided as to whether or not to keep it right up until it arrived, and the temptation to open the box was very great.

Eventually my boss who got his PS3 delivered yesterday as well, talked me into keeping it over the phone. I just hope he’s going to give me a pay rise, as I now need to buy a HDMI splitter and a network switch as I don’t have any free slots left on my receiver or on my router!

I didn’t get a lot of time to check out the PS3 or to take the obligatory unpacking shots, but I have to say from just physical appearances the PS3 makes the Xbox 360 feel and look cheap. The build quality on the PS3 is amazing, even down to the detail on the power button.

Setup took quite a long time as I found the text input interface which kept alternating between a short keyboard and a QWERTY keyboard confusing. I managed to play Genji for about 5minutes before I had to logoff and it looked like a game I could get into quite easily. My favourite feature so far though is the Folding@Home client. I spent about 10 minutes zooming around the globe just looking at who else was folding at the same time.

Anyway, I’ll have more thoughts on Sunday when I’ve had time to play with my latest toy, after Computer Shutdown day finishes.
