It’ll be interesting to see what sentence ‘porn popup’ teacher Julie Amero receives on Thursday when she is sentenced, as she’s currently facing a potential 40 year sentence. If you missed this case last month, Julie is a substitute teacher who was covering for another teacher. The computer that she was using started to display tonnes of porn popups which were seen by the kids in Julie’s class, and Julie was convicted of exposing the kiddies to porn.
The prosecution claimed that the popups were a result of Julie surfing porn sites, whereas Julie’s defence team claimed that the PC was infected with spyware and Julie didn’t know how to stop it.
I’m not sure which side is right, but the judge obviously sided with the prosecution. However, I do believe it is feasible to believe that Julie is telling the truth and it has emerged that some of the evidence used against her wasn’t very good. For instance, a prosecution expert only looked at her web browser history and concluded that she must have visited all of the porn sites, without actually performing a spyware scan of the PC.
Have you been following this case? What’s your verdict – was Julie Amero guilty or innocent?
