How To Get On The Reddit Homepage

I discovered today why Maki hasn’t added to his debut post on Connected Internet. Maki’s been ‘moonlighting’ over at Search Engine Journal and 10e20.

One of his posts on 10e20 caught my eye which provides an in-depth review of Reddit.com, which includes some good tips on how to get onto the Reddit homepage.

Reddit is probably the social network that most users overlook including myself. As Maki quiet rightly states:

Like Digg or StumbleUpon, getting on Reddit’s frontpage can result in a large amount of traffic to your website. This allows you to rapidly create brand exposure for your business or establish a long-term reader base for your blog.

Using Reddit will also allow your website to spread virally across other social networks, forums or online communities. This generates overall buzz for your brand/concept while acting as a means to build incoming links that will benefit your search engine rankings.

I don’t think I’ve ever been able to monitor the impact of being on the Reddit homepage, as it’s only happened when the same post is getting hammered by other networks at the same time. I’m definitely going to try a few of Maki’s tips over the next few days as I haven’t had a major traffic injection for a long time.

One of my posts got featured on reddit’s front page, it generated 10,000 uniques over 2 days and 15,000 page views if I am not wrong.

Overall I think its a good alternative for digg, but it has a different orientation, the stories are less tech-related.

I actually prefer using Reddit over Digg but not everyone will take to it easily.

If you’re starting out in Reddit, remember to submit as much as possible because it build up your editorial karma/power. Gaming it will be relatively easy if you have a large number of active Reddit users as your friends.
