4 Robots And Their Videos That Make You Go WOW!

In my previous post Weird and Wonderful Gizmods Made In Japan, I mentioned 2 robots, Droid and the skatebot which impressed me, but compared to what you’re going to see, they are not as impressive by a long shot.

1.

AIBO (means companion in Japanese), created by artist Hajime Sorayama, first introduced by sony in 1999, is able to walk, “see” its environment via camera, and recognize spoken commands. Because of their ability to learn and mature through external stimulations they are considered to be autonomous robots.

If you’re a person that wants to have a dog but alergic to them, then it certainly is the best alternative you could’ve ever find. They wouldn’t piss on your favorite carpet, they wouldn’t bark when you’re in deep sleep, they wouldn’t stole your food from the fridge… but they can dance and repond, keeping you entertained all day long. It’s a shame that Sony has discontinued it…

2.

QRIO, originally Sony Dream Robot or SDR, is a entertainment humanoid robot marketed and sold by Sony to follow up on the success of its AIBO toy, which has also been discontinued. QRIO stood 2 feet tall and weighed 7.3 kg, capable of voice and face recognition, making it able to remember people as well as their likes and dislikes.

3.

Asimo, short for Advanced Step in Innovative MObility, is a humanoid robot created by Honda Motor Company, resembling a small astronaut wearing a backpack and able to walk and run on two feet in a manner resembling human locomotion. In the 2007 CES, Asimo was presenting an amazing show by doing some complicate moves, running in circles, climbing up and walking a staircase…

4.

Keepon is a small, yellow robot designed to perform emotive and attentive exchange with human (especially children) in the simplest and most comprehensive way. Keepon was designed by Hideki Kozima of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Kyoto, Japan.

Keepon is made up by rubber skin, two cameras for eyes and a microphone in its nose. In appearance it resembles a yellow snowman.

Keepon has been featured on BoingBoing, Engadget, Metafilter, YouTube… and has gained wide popularity. In the video, which was made by Marek Michalowski, the small cute robot is dancing to the song “I Turn My Camera On” by the band Spoon.

I’ve got to say Keepon is my favorite robot so far, it really put me in shame. I need to go out more and learn some fancy moves…

To end this post, let’s together remind ourselves of the “poem” I wrote the other day, which is called, “I have a dream”…:

“I have a dream that one day on the top of the Fuji Mountain the sons of former robots and the sons of former robots owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
……..
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their body.”

What’s your favorite robot?
