Future PCs To Integrate Powerline Ethernet
I read an interesting story today on The Register that stated that Intel is looking to integrate Powerline Ethernet into a future chipset generation. If you haven’t come across Powerline Ethernet before, it’s where a home network is created using the power cables already in your house offering speeds up to 200Mbps, rather than Ethernet cables or wireless.
I’m glad that Intel are going to support Powerline more, as I think there are lots of other users out there like me who have decided that despite offering a lot of convenience, Wireless networks are too slow to power home networks. When I’m transferring files between PCs on my home network or opening a ripped DVD from a shared drive, there is an tangible delay with wireless cards. The delay is so long, that I’ve actually run Ethernet cables between my key rooms and only the Xbox in my bedroom is connected wirelessly.
Although 802.11n will close the gap between Ethernet and wireless speeds, I don’t think it will close it fast enough for people running significant home networks, particularly as gigabit Ethernet devices are becoming more common.

Very interesting! I’ve read an article or two about Powerline ethernet but didn’t realize it was that fast! I’d love to improve the speeds between my systems at home. Right now, its wireless because I’m loathe to wire up the house. Hope the technology gets here soon.
