CinePlayer DVD Decoder For Vista- Best Quality DVD Playback

I made some progress in the week with my new Home Theatre PC. My new 7950GT graphics card arrived on Tuesday, which totally solved the poor quality video on my 42″ Plasma. The image is stunning and it made me realise that the Samsung monitors on my main PC are very low quality. I won’t be replacing them though as they are fine for working on.
I’ve just purchased the Roxio CinePlayer DVD Decoder for Windows Vista which promises the ‘highest quality DVD playback on a Microsoft Windows Vista PC‘. Quite a bold claim, but given that CinePlayer is written specifically just for Windows Vista I can believe the claim.
I haven’t installed it yet, but I’m going to test it out on my HTPC when I get back in this evening. Normally I like to use a trial version before buying a program, but at $14.99 or £7 thanks to the strong English Pound, I can afford to take a punt. If you’re still running Windows XP then in the past I’ve found that PowerDVD 7 gave me the best DVD and Video playback.
Other HTPC projects for this evening are:
- To see if I can remove the username and password prompt whenever my HTPC tries to access a shared folder on my other Vista PC for the first time
- Work out what kind of audio cable fits into a SPDIF slot (can anyone help?)
- Try and work out how to upscale my DVDs (if my PC is running at 1280×720 does it do this automatically?)
