I believe such errors can occur, however i believe that the main risk is that someone would have bought your domain name yesterday, and that's deep shit.
Thanks for bringing this up and create awareness to the topic.

Well, funny thing on that - Jennifer had a domain expire recently and didn't notice until a month or so passed. While nobody else could take it for another month or more still, the only way for her to get it back for sure involved a $80 fee to GoDaddy.

Have an awesome day!

@Chris

My registrar wrote me to say it would be automatically renewed, so they messed up, not me

@Dan

It hadn't actually been released - I think there's some kind of grace period to give the site owner a chance to renew

So did you have to pay the $80 fee to get it back after the expiration date, or does your registrar not charge the "so, you want it back, do you?" fee?

Welcome back.

Have an awesome day!

Well i didn't think that this would happen on a top blog. Quite a fundemental task but overlooked in so many websites i'd expect.

A friend lost a premium domain because he went to australia for 8weeks during the renewal period and made sure he wasn't going to logon for his holiday came back to find it had been snapped up.
