Wi-Fi In Laptops Dangerous To Kids
I try to not use a laptop on my lap because I’m sure the heat isn’t going to do much for my chances of fathering kids, but now I’m wondering if I should worry about the WiFi antenna. A UK government mobile phone safety research committee is advising that kids shoud use laptops. Professor Lawrie Challis told the Daily Telegraph that:
“With a desktop computer, the transmitter will be in the tower. This might be perhaps 20cms from your leg and the exposure would then be around one per cent of that from a mobile phone. However, if you put a laptop straight on your lap and are using wi-fi, you could be around two centimetres from the transmitter, and receiving comparable exposure to that from a mobile phone.”
Scary stuff huh?

I’ve been wondering about these kind of signals whizzing through the air for a while now and have already been trying to limit my proximity to these devices, such as limiting laptop usage on my lap!
I wasn’t aware it could be as bad as mobile phoen usage though, something to think about, given I’d spend much more time using a laptop than I would talking on a mobile in one session.

It’s something I worry about as well. In my home I have:
- my wifi network
- 6 other networks I can see
- two mobiles
- A DECT network
-Blutooth devices
- a laptop and a console connected wirelessly
