Interesting Online Dating Sites

I read an article in the Metro this morning that stated that 7m Brits use online dating sites to meet people, which equates to over 10% of the population. I’m starting to understand now why Dan and Jennifer’s site is so popular.

I was stunned that so many people use dating sites. I’ve never used one, but I’m tempted to register with one of the niche sites that I think could be quite interesting. datemyplate.com is a dating site where when you register your details you also register your car registration number or plate. Then if someone spots you out and about in your car and wants to meet you, they can search for you using your number plate.

I think it’s quite cool and I wish I’d written down the number plate of this beautiful woman who stopped next to me at a set of traffic lights a few years ago, in a very sexy scarlet red Porsche Boxster S when I had a Boxster S as well, and gave me a very ‘friendly’ wave.

Other sites listed in the article include:

  • isawyouonce.com – a site where you post a sighting of someone you saw on say the tube who you were afraid to approach, but you just can’t get out of your head. The idea is that someone on the site might know the person who you saw, or if you’re lucky, they might even be registered.
  • gocougar.com – a site that introduces older women to younger men. The example given in the article describes how Cindy aged 48, met her boyfriend aged 18 through the article. I don’t think this site is for me, although I did once go out with a girl I met in the gym for a while who was aged 32 when I was 23. We were both a bit shocked after a few weeks when we found out each others ages, as we both thought the gap was smaller

Have you ever used an online dating site? Any interesting stories or sites? One of my strangest is when one of Managers who was married met a lady online in America, told his wife he was gong on a business trip when he went to meet her for the first time, and then divorced his wife as soon as he got back and married the lady he met online.

  • I have done some research into online dating and have been highly impressed by what can be acheived. For the guy that is perhaps a little bit shy in the real world can simply join and then either search or better still be found.

Like most things, there are steps to acheiving success and I am working on putting the steps in place.
  • Those are cool sites, but i dont think i want to put my licsense plate out there for everyone to see. Some might be able to find me at the dmv or something.

  • Hey Everton,

Thanks. We're pretty intimately familiar with the industry, in part because we did own/operate our own online dating service for over 3 years.

It's really amazing how many people are using online dating regularly. Fact is, you have an amazing selection of people to choose from, and you can narrow your search any way you want.

Where a lot of people go wrong is keeping it "online" for too long after they've found someone. We recommend thinking of online dating as "online introductions"... none of this text chatting for weeks on end business unless that's all you're looking for. Find someone you like and move it to the real world asap.

If there's one SINGLE piece of advice we'd give someone for dating online - be HONEST about yourself.

The top 3 things people really should consider to succeed with online dating:
    1. be honest - about yourself and what you're looking for. people always find out if you lie, and it always ends badly.
    2. upload a photo (people want to see what you look like, period)
    3. sign up to several dating sites, not just one. be sure to include a site like match.com or yahoo personals in your list, so you have a LOT of potential options to choose from

We actually just finished a series of YouTube videos with tips and advice for succeeding and avoiding the potential pitfalls with online dating.

Having a lot of fun with the video posts now that we've got most of the kinks worked out. :-)

    Have an awesome day!
