I love my job. Period.
If I were to ever leave to blogging for a living, I would have a congress of blogs and bloggers with Me!. Not just one blog.

You could still blog 2 hours per day and have the rest of the day off. If you have the motivation however it would only be natural to expand into different markets, read and participate more in forums and generally spend more time on the Internet.

I for one thought of a second stream of income next to blogging and I could either work as a consultant or trade websites / domains.

Martin, my point exactly. And that's how we're handling it as well. Our main focus is getting as much of our revenue as possible from strictly passive effortgs (blog sutff - write once, and it pays you forever). but some consulting does offset the money issue until you get enough coming in.

To paint a picture... I'm writing this comment (and my previous ones) on my wireless laptop, from our beautiful lush backyard, a.k.a. the outdoor home office. I find it much easier to write and get inspired when I'm out here, "in nature". Oh, and we just got up from our mid-day meditation about 2 hours ago. time for a break actually.

Jennifer is sitting on the other side of the patio table with her laptop (I just waved at her), working on her "targets" of the day. Simpleology-speak. :-) And our dogs are happy as can be with us both working from home.

Come to think of it, we may just go catch a movie around 2PM tomorrow - best time to catch a show BTW, nobody else there, no crowds. And I don't have to ask anybody if it's ok, i.e. to get a hall pass. That kind of freedom is truly priceless, at least for me. :-)

One other great thing about working from home is all the different places you can film your YouTube videos - if you've seen some of our latest video posts, you'll notice we film all over.

But like I said before, we're all unique individuals with different preferences, so I'm just sharing ours.

Have an awesome day!

I agree Everton that blogging full time is not as nice as it may sound. If you calculate how much time you spend per day on your blog - and I assume it is somewhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours - and see that it already generates enough revenue to have enough money for all expenses there would not be a dire need to raise the bar from that time to say 8 hours per day.

You could still blog 2 hours per day and have the rest of the day off. If you have the motivation however it would only be natural to expand into different markets, read and participate more in forums and generally spend more time on the Internet.

Creating new blogs could be difficulty but it is not impossible. Not every blog is the next Connected Internet of course but it is still possible to create nice blogs with a good revenue these days. Especially if you know the drill and I think we all know it pretty well.

Here’s the fun question - how much FASTER would you get to your desired blog income if you worked it full time - focused all your efforts on your goal?

The problem I see here is that having more time to post doesn't necessarily mean you will make more money e.g. writing more posts could lead to less traffic as regular readers struggle to keep up!

I think Martin's strategy has a better chance, but then again, who's to say you can successfully launch more blogs?

I think what you said earlier is the key point. Wannabe probloggers need to decide how much they really want to be a problogger, and what risks they are prepared to get there.

Here's the fun question - how much FASTER would you get to your desired blog income if you worked it full time - focused all your efforts on your goal?

In personal growth circles, theres a common theme in personal growth circles that whatever you focus the most energy on will grow. Makes sense. so if your main goal is to be making passive income from your blog, then it stands to reason that focusing all your energy on that instead of on your job will get you there much faster.

IF you can make that happen anyway. Just food for thought. :-)

Have an awesome day!

I think if I did quit my job I don't think I could just be a full-time blogger, as I think I'd go crazy. I enjoy running the blog, but my goal in life isn't to be a writer/journalist. I would get bored staying at home all day I think. Yes I could meet friends for lunch etc, but they would go back to work, and I would return back to my flat. I guess I could start working in a internet cafe or something.

If I did quit, I would probably use the income from the blog to pay my bills while I setup my own company with a few other people.

Everton great post. I'm really thinking of leaving my current job and blog full time. I do think that you need to have a plan though before you make that move.

Lets say quitting your day job adds between 4-8 hours per day that you could use to blog. You can't use all of that time for the blogs you are already running in your spare time which means that you surely will have to expand and create new blogs and websites.

I'm currently calculating how much money I need to make to be able to live from blogging alone. The bare minimum so to speak. I have not decided yet but I will surely multiply that figure by 1.5-3 and will quit my dayjob once I reach that figure for more than 3 months in a row.

will keep you posted.

Everton, that requirement list is also dependent on your tolerance and enjoyment of a little risk. This coming from a multi serial (potentially chronic) entrepreneur. :-)

We're all individuals with different hopes, goals, aspirations, preferences, etc... so we'll all see everything uniquely. That's a big part of what makes it fun.

Everton, I think you are right about the requirements. For someone with a stable job and stable bills to pay, you would need some savings, a good plan and timing.

The biggest questions however is not when you move to full-time blogging but why. If the why is there, sooner or later you will make the move. By the why I mean: what do you love to do in life? Some people, like Mr. Byte, find blog fun and interesting, but they also love their jobs, so there is no need to make it full time.

Other people, however, love working alone, wth flexibility, writing and sharing ideas. That was the case with me. And when you have that drive, when you feel the 9-5 work schedule is just not right for you, then all the rest becomes secondary, because somehow you will figure it out.

My 2 cents.
