A recruiter that I know in the UK has just sent me an email to say that he is joining Zubka.com, a referral platform whereby individuals get paid for referring people for jobs, and there is currently over £1.3m/$2.5m (Zubka.com is backed by Benchmark Capital) in referral rewards available to be claimed from our job board. Anyone can sign up as a ‘referrer’ and then personally recommend their friends and professional contacts for jobs. Referrers receive job alerts making them aware of new vacancies within the industries they know people and they receive large financial rewards for successful referrals, with an average payment of $6,000 or £3,000. Hirers benefit as well as Zubka can provide a much faster way of finding the right individual, and costs a third of traditional recruitment charges.

I’ve registered my details as I’ve always had a bit of a bee in my bonnet about not getting a referral fee when I’ve supplied the names of potential candidates for roles. I get on average about one call a week from headhunters wanting to see if I’m interested in a role where if I’m not I usually give them names of people to call who I think would be interested, or calls from recruiters who want to see if I know anyone suitable for a role they are trying to fill. There was one period when I was on a role where I think I found about 6 candidates.

I always try to be helpful, as I want to maintain a good relationship with recruiters as one day they might have a role land on their desk that is perfect for me, and I want to make sure they don’t forget to call me.
