Have You Upgraded To WordPress 2.2 Yet?

WordPress 2.2 was released yesterday.  Normally I start upgrading within seconds of seeing the announcements, but nothing in the new features captures my imagination.  Have you upgraded yet?

The only feature that half got my attention was “Core plugin and filter speed optimizations should make everything feel a bit more snappy and lighter on your server.”.  Here’s the full list of features:

  • WordPress Widgets allow you to easily rearrange and customize areas of your weblog (usually sidebars) with drag-and-drop simplicity. This functionality was originally available as a plugin Widgets are now included by default in the core code, significantly cleaned up, and enabled for the default themes.
  • Full Atom support, including updating our Atom feeds to use the 1.0 standard spec and including an implementation of the Atom Publishing API to complement our XML-RPC interface.
  • A new Blogger importer that is able to handle the latest version of Google’s Blogger product and seamlessly import posts and comments without any user interaction beyond entering your login.
  • Infinite comment stream, meaning that on your Edit Comments page when you delete or spam a comment using the AJAX links under each comment it will bring in another comment in the background so you always have 20 items on the page. (I know it sounds geeky, but try it!)
  • We now protect you from activating a plugin or editing a file that will break your blog.
  • Core plugin and filter speed optimizations should make everything feel a bit more snappy and lighter on your server.
  • We’ve added a hook for WYSIWYG support in a future version of Safari.

  • I am very very scared to upgrade anything these days... especially, if everything is working correctly... I do not want to risk having to spend 5 days un-kink-ing the 'bugs' - I'll let you guys go first :)
  • I'm holding off a bit as well to hear what the community has to say. Being new to Wordpress, I'm a bit nervous but I'll at least start with some local testing.

I haven't upgraded yet - as you have already mentioned, there is nothing that strikes me as amazing about this release aside from the core running faster and lighter. I don't even *like* widgets >_
  • I literally just upgraded my other blogs to 2.1 on Sunday. Man, I should have waited two days! But there are always bugs in new versions, so upgrading right away may not be the best thing to do.
  • The upgrade to wordpress 2.2 was smooth and didnt cause much hassel most of the plugins I was using are compatible with the new version
  • I used to be someone who upgraded as soon as possible when new version of anything came out, however after increasingly being burned using this strategy, I tend to let others be the trailblazers while I sit back and wait for any fallout.

Thus one reason why I haven't upgraded to Vista as yet - it's time is coming soon though!
  • I think I'll wait for the inevitable bug fix - this will be the first time I haven't upgraded instantly
  • It is really hard to resist though. Every bone in my body is screaming, no demanding actually, that I upgrade now. My name is Dennis and I'm an upgradoholic.

    Must upgrade....everything....
  • I haven't upgraded. As with any new version of software, I always wait a bit to see how stable it is. I'm still undecided on whether to upgrade or not.
  • Well, waiting a couple of days is better as some people start to have some problems with the new version already!
Anyway, the upgrading is worth it(after couple of days) as Matt said: "and over two hundred bug fixes.".
