When Was The Last Time You Did Your Blog Housekeeping?
Everton | May 23, 2007 | Comments 7
I haven’t been very well over the last couple of days, so I haven’t had the energy to do any posts. Normal posting will resume tomorrow as I make one last push in the final week of the month, as I’m a bit behind my stretch target for the month.
I did however manage to have a quick chat with Daniel from Daily Blog Tips last night, and he convinced me to do some blog housekeeping. It’s worthwhile every now and then to get someone you trust to critique your blog, as sometimes you can get too close to the site to be able to see where improvements can be made.
I upgraded my plugins, which was a good thing to do as a lot of them were out of date which had left my blog vulnerable. I also reduced a lot of the noise on the site by removing a lot of the crap under the posts, including reducing the number of related posts. Hopefully this will make it easier for readers to see the related posts and to also find their way down to the comment form.
I also ditched a couple more ads, including the annoying Vizu polls because the fill rate is awful and also because i really hate the new formats. I can understand Vizu wanting to keep their advertisers happy, but I think they’ve only succeeded in alienating their publishers.

Everton great idea, but there is no trackback link anymore :P
hm, can it be that the trackback link is not shown when there is no comment and only shown when one exist ?
Ahh you’re right – it’s not showing up when there isn’t a comment. Will fix that today
What a co-incidence you mention this, I’ve bene doing much the same thing with my blog the past week or so, which has meant a hit to my blog posts unfortunately, but I think it should be worthwhile in terms of cleaning things up and hopefully giving better load times etc.
Can I ask what you use in your comment section that makes the line breaks/return key/ actually appear in the submitted comment?
Cheers!
I haven’t done anything special here.
Get well soon Everton…you’re blog is one of the best on the web.
Cheers listikal. I’m back on my feet now so normal posting will resume tomorrow. Was a bit sad to see my feed count drop 30% just from a few days inactivity though!
