Widsets - Get Your Favourite Content On Your Mobile
Widsets, who have advertised previously on Connected Internet have just purchased some additional advertising, including this post.
If you haven’t come across or used Widsets yet, it’s a great service that allows you to create your own mobile widgets, featuring any blog content or feed you may like. It’s also a good way to get new RSS subscribers - my Widget has already added nearly 200 RSS subscribers.
Although mobile browsers continue to improve and there are great services like Google Mobile Reader, they still struggle to present web pages in an easily readable format. This is why I use Widsets as it allows me to view my favourite sites in a nice clean layout, using a special client that can be downloaded for many handsets.
Creating your Widgets for your own site on Widsets is quite simple. All you have to do is register and load up your RSS feed and select a few options. My RSS Widset that I created 3 months ago is currently being used by 192 people, which is an amazing return for something that only took me 5 minutes to create. This number will surely continue to grow, as Widsets are backed by Nokia who are ramping up the promotion of Widsets.
Other types of Widgets are also available in addition to RSS feeds, including games, forums, travel guides and Flickr image feeds. Another new feature that I hadn’t noticed before is a new email aggregation service that works with Gmail, POP3 and IMAP accounts, that will send email notifications when a new message arrives. This a perfect mobile application as it adds ‘Push’ capabilities to almost any email service.
Online chat room widgets are now also available from Widsets. Chat rooms can be quickly created just by using your phone’s addressbook, and multiple rooms can be opened. There aren’t any public rooms yet, but I’m sure that these will appear shortly.
If you’re a budding developer there’s even a new Widsets developer site. On the site the SDK is available along with sample widgets that can be customised. This is a another smart move by Widsets, as with services like this all it takes is for one individual to come up with one killer service, to make Widsets a mainstream service.

Now that sound interesting. I just got a Nokia N80ie and I was wondering why there wasn’t any RSS-reader software on it. It has Weblogs and all the other stuff, but no feed-reader.
I did however discover http://www.fring.com, so now I have both Skype and MSN on my phone
I am going to create one of these Widsets. Thank you for the tip, Everton.

Pioneering free mobile TV service
TV on your WAP enabled mobile phone. Type http://yamgo.mobi in your mobile internet browser. They are looking for beta testers to help see if it works on your phone.
Offered by extreme sports mobile TV company Yamgo (www.yamgo.tv). It’s a free service (apart from your WAP phone charges).
It works well on my Nokia N70, even the live channels work over a GPRS.

Widgets are a good concept. We have launched a similar product a while ago ( http://www.myiota.co.uk ) which brings internet browsing on the phone inline with SMS, and the application provides an access to a network of services which can be SMS or gprs. Although, we concentrate on Text Only, the appeal and the consumer uptake is very impressive.
You can download the application from your mobile by typing the following URL http://myiota.co.uk/m

I like widgets and ad-ons. It’s like having a brand new gadget with the added functionality. But, always be safe and verify the code. Once, I installed an app in my Ericsson P990i and it died!
