MyBlogEarnings For May 2007

Earnings Report

Here are the scores on the doors for May 2007.

Note: Figures for last month are in brackets and some numbers are estimated (in italics) as data for 31/5 was not available at the time of posting.

Although I didn’t quite break the magical $8k/pm barrier (I was so tempted to do some sort of special offer for $50 dollars yesterday!), I did manage to break a more important barrier for a limey - the £4k/pm barrier:

  • Google Adsense: $4782.21 ($3,648.26)
  • Intellitxt: $988.58 ($555.05)
  • Text-Link-Ads: $780.01 ($535.43)
  • Tribal Fusion: $615.62 ($437.10)
  • Direct Ad Sales: $300.00($750.00)
  • Feedburner FAN: $220.74 ($350.24)
  • ReviewMe: $150.00($0.00)
  • Blogads: $72.90 ($0)
  • Vizu Polls: $38.23 ($110.72)
  • Chitika: $9.88 ($31.79)
  • Tumri: $6.00 ($0.00)

Grand Total: $7,964.39 ($6,418.35)

Overall my earnings for May increased by 25% over, and I’m hoping that I can continue the growth I’ve seen this year (Jan $2,259, Feb $3,908, Mar $8,913 and Apr $6415.23) for a few more months.

As for the target I set to be hit by September to pay for the new car. Well, I passed it in May which I’m very, very happy about! What’s even better is my current run-rate is looking very good, although given my heavy reliance on Adsense which is extremely volatile, this could all change very quickly.

Successes For The Month

Adsense

As I mentioned in last month’s MyBlogEarnings report, the signs were there in the last week of April that the disastrous Adsense performance was about to end. Not only did it end, but it shot up to new record levels and I even had two $200+ days for the first time ever. Lets hope the numbers stay high for at least another month.

Intellitxt

I nearly doubled my Intellitxt earnings this month, which I’m sure is because the quality of the ads has noticably improved. Hopefully this month the numbers will continue to increase.

Disappointments For The Month

Direct Ad Sales

Although I managed to sell $300 worth of advertising, this was a result of direct approaches. I’m determined this month to implement my ‘plan’ to try and secure a few big ad deals.

TLA

My strategy of dropping TLA advertisers was working until very stupidly halfway through the month, I decided to move the placement of my ads. I’m sure that some of my advertisers noticed this, which led to them cancelling their campaigns. Hopefully I’ll find some replacements in June.

FAN

My earnings were down this month, despite having ads running that had high CPMS on paper. I’m not sure if my fill rate is bad, or if in previous months I was earning more as a result of the code I missed in my theme release. June should provide the answer.

Vizu

Rather than constantly whining and getting upset about Vizu Polls, I’ve decided to just ditch them. I finally realised that keeping my blood pressure down is much more important to me than earning $50-100 dollars per month!

Plans For Next month

I’m reducing the number of goals for this month and focussing on just a few big ones:

  • Reduce reliance on Adsense

Even though Adsense has been very good to me of late, I’m still very uncomfortable about being so reliant on one scheme

  • Implement direct sales plan

It WILL happen this month. If I’m successful, it will reduce my reliance on Adsense which will help me sleep better at night

Martin’s Intellitxt trial period ends mid-month, which will trigger my referral fee. I want to make sure he exceeds an average of 500k/pm so that I get an extra $250!

  • Push my feedcount over 2000

I need to find a way to convert more of my approx 200k unique monthly into feed subscribers. Even if I can only convert 0.5% that would take me up to around 2500 subscribers (any ideas or tips?). If you haven’t subscribed yet to this blog then click here to help me out. Go on - you won’t regret it!

  • Motivate The Team More

It’s taking longer for the cumulative earnings from the team posts to generate revenue, so I’ve started adding new features to the program to encourage the team. I also want to do more coaching as I really enjoy working with the guys.

I hope that the amount of information I have shared here will encourage you to do the same (An alternative way is to tag your post ‘MyBlogEarnings‘ so that your details can be found easily on Technorati), or provide you with food for thought. The more info we share with each other, the more we will all hopefully make.

I also was talking to someone over there about this wordpress beta thing and told them about your site. I said you had a great site and it would be good for them to help you out

That probably explains why I got another email saying that I’d now been accepted at the rate I set!

I think Intellitxt ads look great compared to Kontera. They just seem like the Ferrari of those type of ads.

The pricing issue happened to me as well. They’ll let you price it how you want, but they first try to make sure you set it where you will make the most sales. TLA just gives you a price which I think is only negotiable if you make them a lot of money where LW will let you set a price but give suggestions if necessary. I was going to try Kontera to see how they performed against intellitxt, but I changed my mind as I didn’t like the fact that their links look like normal links. I’m also very happy with my intellitxt performance, so I didn’t bother.

I took your advice and applied for linkworth. I set the same prices as my TLA ads and they sent me an email saying my links were overpriced……

Have you tried kontera? They’re along the same line as intellitxt. They also show yahoo ads through their network but they accept a lot of people and are a little excessive on how many ads they show.

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to try moving adsense around to see if I can improve clickthru’s.

    @spankford

Yes, I think it’s the placement. I also think I’ve been lucky in that my most popular posts get good ads (I think).

I’ve never come across linkworth before - will take a look over the weekend.

I think intellitxt are protective because they run ads from the Yahoo network, and all sites have to be approved by Yahoo, hence the high bar to keep Yahoo happy.

    Hi Everton,

Man it’s so crazy to see someone doing so well with AdSense! That’s really awesome to see and it’s a definite positive to see. Do you think it’s the placement of your ads?

On the TLA thing, have you ever tried http://www.linkworth.com? I run both on my site and have a few more advertisers from LW, but they actually payout 70% so the money I make is quite a bit more even though the number of ads are close to the same.

I don’t think intellitxt is something feasible for most blogs. I contacted them last year and they wanted proof of certain numbers, in other words, the big busy sites. Most don’t fall in there, which seems like they’re missing a big market. Linkworth eventually offered the same type of product, so I have their intellitxt type ads on my site and do ok.

I’m just amazed at your AdSense. A HUGE congrats. I love seeing bloggers doing so well. Gives the rest of us hope.
