New Logo Design For London 2012 Olympic Games

Now I’m a big fan of logos and that’s partly why I started The Logo Homepage dot com, and I’ve been keeping a keen eye on new logo designs.

When I got up this morning to the news that London has got new logo identity for the 2012 games, I was very excited until I saw it. To be honest, I was disappointed about the new designs, for a start, it looks like shattered buildings to me.

Maybe it’s a sign, a sign that indicates something like: the spiralling cost would ultimately shatter the dreams of 2012 London Games…

To make it worse, the new logo design for the 2012 London Olympics Games has costed taxpayers well over £400,000. Can’t they just hold a competition for designing a logo, I’m sure they will get many involved and what’s more, a logo for free, just like what they did in China with the Beijing 2008 Logo.

Well, I guess it’s too late now!

In the press release, it says “The new emblem is dynamic, modern and flexible. It will work with new technology and across traditional and new media networks.” But what’s wrong with the previous logo though, don’t they remember that it’s that logo that won London the right to hold the 2012 games?

So what do you think, readers, do you like the new one or prefer the old?

  • The new logo is hideous. Absolutely hideous.
  • The old one is much better. That new logo ... it's terrible.
  • exactly! whoever looks at the old logo would instantly know that it's about london 2012, while with the new one, well, "what is that?"

i think they'll live to regret the decision!
  • Shocking aint it. What a waste of taxpayers money.
  • Looks cheap and nasty to me.. not at all worth £400,000!
  • I think it's pretty much like the "Emperor's New Clothes". the ones in charge listen to those supposed to be professionals and buy into whatever they say.

and i just heard the news that forget about petitions, apparently, it's not up for disscussion. there's no way back now.

well, a sad day for the democratic country
  • I prefer old one too. new one is really shit!
  • I can't believe it cost £400k to come up with that....I'm getting a bit worried about how they are spending my Walnut Whip!!!

Everytime I hear the words 'London 2012' I get so excited! I'm going to take the whole games off work and I'm going to watch something everyday, even if it's swimming, shooting, or archery - I really don't care.

I'm even thinking of pledging something or volunteering to help.

The logo is so ugly I can barely look at it. I can hardly draw but give me 400k (or even a tenth of that) and I'll happily produce something better or just promote the old one! Waste of money and space. Does anyone know who designed it and who chose the design?
