New Logo Design For London 2012 Olympic Games

Now I’m a big fan of logos and that’s partly why I started The Logo Homepage dot com, and I’ve been keeping a keen eye on new logo designs.

When I got up this morning to the news that London has got new logo identity for the 2012 games, I was very excited until I saw it. To be honest, I was disappointed about the new designs, for a start, it looks like shattered buildings to me.

Maybe it’s a sign, a sign that indicates something like: the spiralling cost would ultimately shatter the dreams of 2012 London Games…

To make it worse, the new logo design for the 2012 London Olympics Games has costed taxpayers well over £400,000. Can’t they just hold a competition for designing a logo, I’m sure they will get many involved and what’s more, a logo for free, just like what they did in China with the Beijing 2008 Logo.

Well, I guess it’s too late now!

In the press release, it says “The new emblem is dynamic, modern and flexible. It will work with new technology and across traditional and new media networks.” But what’s wrong with the previous logo though, don’t they remember that it’s that logo that won London the right to hold the 2012 games?

So what do you think, readers, do you like the new one or prefer the old?

    LOL at the BBC comment!

Just found out who designed it: http://www.wolff-olins.com/ (with reference to this site) but interestingly, I can’t seem to find the news on their (OH SO SLOW) flash website.

The original logo was apparently designed by:http://www.kinodesign.co.uk/ – go Kino is all I can say! Apparently it came top out of over 1100 entries.

If I volunteer I’m going to go with the original logo as my t-shirt. No way am I going to be caught dead/alive with the neon things on me.

I do think that logo looks like bit of a shambles if you ask me – lets just hope that the games themselves aren’t!

i think the logo has been chosen by the olympics committee

they spend £400,000 taxpayers money on a logo, can you imagine on a large scale project, like a stadium…

    scary thought….

    oh dear…oh dear

too much block colour – needed to be less complex then it would have worked – to me it doesn’t really say london – london is an trully international city – which the new logo doesn’t convey at all. But hey we are stuck with it now so its tuff.

I really hate the new logo and, to top it all, can’t look at it without thinking that it looks like Lisa Simpson performing a lewd act on her brother…

i seriously think we should open a competition to get a much better logo and then campaing to get it replaced britian is going to be shamed if we let such a universally crap decision affecting our global reputation stand unchallenged. they say it isnt going to be changed but of course they would say that if we put enough pressure on them an have a free alternative that has popular consent they would be stupid not to listen even if we failed it would be a good exercise in getting them to listen to us the public it is our democraticaly elected government after all and this is a major public use of money and branding of our nation .. with such a popularly repudiated image
