Is WordPress Getting Stale?

Is WordPress starting to get stale? For the last six months or so, I don’t think there has been a WordPress feature delivered either by the numerous releases, or introduced via a plugin, that has got me really excited.  Yes, I’ve added a few new plugins, but they have been to solve particular issues or goals, rather than adding ‘new’ functionality.

One of the reasons I moved to WordPress almost exactly a year ago from Blogware, was because I was getting frustrated that I couldn’t use many of the cool features I was seeing on other blogs.  My first couple of months on WordPress were very exciting with lots of new features, themes and plugins to try.

I haven’t checked the WordPress roadmap for a while, so I’m not sure if any exciting features are coming up in future releases. I hope so, as a lot of the fun of blogging is tinkering with my site structure and features. If I’m still looking for that blogging buzz, what other blogging platforms do you think warrant serious consideration? Or, have you installed an exciting new WordPress plugin in the last couple of months that I shoud give a try?

I agree with Vinod that it too early to think about it.
So far WP is the best out there.

I wouldn’t say it’s gone stale… but then again I’m a late comer to the scene. I like the fact that most of it’s basic functions are as stable as arock (mostly) Most of the other functions can be resolved through plugins (which I love… there are some new ones that are quite exciting for me. Although there is a Wordpress Plugin competition hosted by Weblogtoolscollection.com) so the core package is still slimline.
I would like to see a few extra improvements to the core for Wordpress - including some functionality (such as more extension for future posting for events) that could be easily incorporated. I don’t believe the keywords part should be core - not every blog relies on this function, and will only serve to bloat the core package. Aside from that, I can’t really complain!
One thing they really should improve is the forum - pretty hard to find stuff there imho!

It is too early to decide WP’s fate and such. I hope future Wordpress Major releases would feature better Content + User + Plugin + Security Management Features. I must say the current WP admin interface should see the first lights of improvement.

Wordpress is only a script for blog and I think that features aren’t endless.

    Hey Everton,

Interesting point my friend, but I’ve gotta say Wordpress is just awesome and blows out of the water ANYTHING else out there. It just WORKS! :-)

    Have an awesome day!

I’m with Martin on this one. I can’t think of any tweaks to WordPress that would make love it any more than I already do.

My ultimate wish list from WP is that they make it an all encompassing CMS system but for the moment I’m most certainly a happy customer.

    “Stale” = mature?

At some point, all software needs to focus on improving existing capabilities, rather than engaging in another round of feature-itis.
