Mystery Of Faces On Vista DVD Solved
![]()
A Microsoft Product Manager has responded to the images that broke last week of the 3 faces found on Vista DVDs. Apparently the story behind the images is pretty boring. The image is just one of many placed on the discs to make it harder to produce accurate counterfeits.
Although this is probably a good deterrent to stop wannabe copiers from making 100% accurate copies, I doubt that they care and I’m also pretty certain that anyone buying a counterfeit copy of Vista knows full well that it has fallen off the back of a lorry.

I’m not sure how that’s supposed to work, as I’d never have known that my Vista cd should have a tiny photo on it… Would the average punter care?

Still, you have to admit that it is a creative approach to individualizing the discs. I was wondering the about the face issue anyway and this is as good an explanation as any.
