MyBlogEarnings For June 2007
Ok, here’s the MyBlogEarnings report for June. If you are looking for some quick tips on generating more income from your site then check out my Guide To Making Money Online With Blogging.
It’s been an interesting month and although the month didn’t go exactly as planned, I’m still fairly satisfied with the results, although the performance over the last week or so has been a bit worrying and I think things are going to get even worse over the summer unless I take action fast.
Earnings Report For June 2006
Note: Figures for last month are in brackets and some numbers are estimated (in italics) as data for 30/6 was not available at the time of posting.
Despite having one less day this month I managed to break through $9k/pm, which now means that I’ve finally officially become a Six-Figure-Blogger!
- Google Adsense: $4,234 ($4,782)
- Intellitxt: $1,210 ($989)
- Text-Link-Ads: $1,010 ($780)
- Direct Ad Sales: $825 ($300)
- Tribal Fusion: $810 ($616)
- ReviewMe: $560 ($150)
- Feedburner FAN: $337 ($221)
- Chitika: $55 ($10)
- Blogads: $6 ($73)
Grand Total: $9,048 ($7,964)
Overall my earnings for June increased by 12% over May, which is very good given that I had one less day to play with in June. My goal next month is to try and maintain this level of income, which I think is going to be challenging with the summer fast approaching.
One thing that surprised me about my earnings is I’m somehow making more money than ever with Chitika, even though I’d taken down all my links! I must have a direct link somewhere within a product that has suddenly become popular.
Successes For The Month
Intellitxt
My intellitxt revenue continues to improve and every month I’m thankful that I went through the hassle of getting accepted. If you have a site that’s generating more than 250K page impressions a month you should give this scheme a go. Drop me a line if you want to get referred.
Direct Ad Sales
I finally managed to kick-start my sales plan and I’ve got a few things in the pipleline that I hope will close next month. I also managed to sell some links in the directory, as well as a few ads on the website and a direct review.
ReviewMe/Sponsored Reviews
I think the Reviews category I created so that advertisers can quickly see the reviews I’ve written is finally starting to work and hopefully next month I will get a few more reviews booked.
Adsense Stability
Although my Adsense earnings are lower than last month, I actually managed to have exactly the same eCPM as the record eCPM I hit in May. What brought my earnings down was the lower number of impressions I created in June.
Disappointments For The Month
Traffic Levels
Although on the face of it my earnings from impression related schemes look ok, I came in nowhere near the target I set based on the run-rate I’d achieved by the end of May. This is because my overall traffic dropped by 8% over the month so I need to work hard in July to stop the decline and to try and grow traffic.
This is going to be difficult as the summer holidays and the good weather are almost here. I know just how much traffic can slump over the summer from my day job, and things are only going to get worse in July and August unless I do something drastic.
FeedCount
With my traffic actually falling, I probably picked the wrong month to try and push my feedcount past 2000. I think I’m probably going to stop playing close attention to my feedcount as my site’s success comes mainly from getting Google traffic not links from other blogs that drive other bloggers to me, so I don’t think my feedcount is ever going to be high.
Plans For Next month
- Stop My Traffic Falling
The summer is almost upon us and my normal traffic is going to continue falling as people start to go on hols and spend less time online. So, I’m going to have to come up with some ways to try and widen my userbase.
- Close Some Direct Ad Deals
Hopefully I’ll be able to close a couple of the discussions I started last month. I think this is where any future income growth is going to come from as I’ve now maxed out and fully optimised my advertising programmes, and I’ve given up trying to generate affiliate income.
- Increase TLA Income
I’d maxed out my TLA income as I’d sold all ten of my links, so I contacted TLA and asked them to cancel two of my links. They weren’t too happy, but until they come up with a system that helps publishers with popular sites maximise their income I can’t see an alternative. Hopefully the two links that are now available will sell quickly.
I hope that the amount of information I have shared here will encourage you to do the same (An alternative way is to tag your post ‘MyBlogEarnings‘ so that your details can be found easily on Technorati), or provide you with food for thought. The more info we share with each other, the more we will all hopefully make.

Hi Everton, i read in the same block that you are worried about CTR and if your eCPM is same as of pervious month. Then you have nothing to worry about smart price stuff. With the recent updates in Adwords panel giving more freedom to Advertisers it is too early to say anything.
Low traffic this month depends on the number people spend time online. Did you check your ranking for the keywords are the rankings same in google? As google now heavily discounting links many people in the industry see a drop in their rankings.
Comming to direct traffic what are your plans? i would be interested in listening that.
Comment by Everton on 1 July 2007:
One of the things I was going to do today was check my top google links to see if they have fallen. I think my problem though is caused by the fact that a lot of my best performing links are pretty old-if you flick through my top posts in the sidebar you’ll see what I mean.
In terms of traffic I haven’t written any link bait articles for a while, although I tried an mp3 tagging post last week but no-one really bit. I’m going to do a few in July and email bigger sites with the link like I used to, to try and get them to read it and link to me.
Comment by Martin on 1 July 2007:
Everton the figures are really impressive, congrats to them. When I compare our figures I realize that I have to work on text link sales and direct ad sales. Maybe you would like to write an article about your success with direct ad sales ? This would be really nice, hehe.

[...] Everton and several other users are publishing their blog earnings every month and I thought that I would do a similar thing with the exception that I will not publish the absolute numbers but only the percentage of what the service is earning. I feel not that comfortable to reveal my earnings in dollars because I feel that it belongs to my private life. [...]

I’ll do one next month if my ‘master plan’ works. To date just about every sale I’ve made has been from direct approaches

The key to direct sales are Traffic if you have traffic the direct link sales queries start comming. Internet is the all about Traffic the more traffic you the more successfull you are.
Comment by Everton on 1 July 2007:
@3gp
Not strictly true. If that was the case then Martin would have more direct sales than me as he has more traffic, and we would both have more direct sales than people like John Chow who we have more traffic then!
Where and how your site is positioned play a role as well

Simply amazing Everton. Another amazing month. I believe the majority of the readers on your blog simply are astounded at the kind of numbers you’re putting up and can only feel hope for the future.

@Everton
Yes you are right but i said the traffic plays important role. Without Traffic you or me is nothing.
PR also plays a role. i agree with you.
Comment by Martin on 1 July 2007:
3GP I personally think that it is actually 50/50. You do need a certain traffic level, pagerank and / or authority to be approached by advertisers or be successful when approaching them. You also need to know how to sell and advertise the blog in the right way.
I honestly never approached advertisers before and I might do so in the near future. I’m just trying to figure out how Everton is that successful in getting direct ad sales which account for almost 10% of his blog earnings so I can try a similar strategy.

really good statistic. now i only earn from adsense, 920$ of June.
i had try some other ad sources, such as tla, amazon ads, ContentLink. however, those ads i think that may cause the adsense smart price, so i droped down them.
Comment by 3gp on 2 July 2007:
@ martin
Nice to hear a reply back from you. I have visited your blog it is nice one.

@horisly
Why do you think other schemes will impact your adsense smart price? It really depends where you put them. If adsense is your main scheme then just don’t put them in better places, or just keep an eye on your CTR.
I’ve managed to accomodate all the other schemes on my site without impacting adsense. Intellitxt may take down the CTR on the 468 adsense unit I have under posts a bit, but that one doesn’t make that much money as the the square unit makes all the cash, so that’s ok. All the other schemes definitely have no impact.

I really really really need to stop holding back on adding Adsense to my blog. I’ve been doubtful it can go well on blogs, but you seem to do fine. I do well on some of my static sites.
Maybe I need to take the leap.

I’ve just started an English blog (before I blogged in Dutch) and I would like you to know that I also publish my monthly earnings. For now I only make money online with Google Adsense, but when my new blog gets PageRank, I will monetize it.
I will be hanging around here in the future, keep the income stream high!

Well thanks for giving us small guys something to shoot for! As I traverse the blogosphere looking at different sites that give their totals, it’s so interesting to see what people make their money on. For instance, for you - ReviewMe isn’t bringing in a ton of money. For JohnChow it’s quite the opposite. Plus, you also prove that AdSense can definitely make some money for your site. *nod* *nod*

Really enjoyed viewing your earnings report. Found it very interesting. I operate a number of high traffic sites. Earn most of my income from Adsense. However, I’ve my eCPM figures have greatly reduced. Was wondering if you know an `expert` who might be able to advise me as a consultant to give me help and advice on how to increase my advert revenues?
Comment by Everton on 29 May 2008:
@Alex
Thanks for the kind words. Everyone’s eCPMs have fallen and given that Google’s have risen, I think they have been shafting partners on the rev share.
As to there being an adsense expert. I don’t think they exist, but check out my adsense posts as I’ve given a lot of useful tips. There’s more advice here in my making money online guide.
