New Design Experiment

Some of you may have noticed something new on the blog today.  It’s a little experiment inspired by the ants that LetsBuyIt.com used to use.

Thoughts?  Think it will work?  I will be getting stats from the links from Add This! which I’ll share.

  • I am finding it amusing. ;) I love floating aspects on blogs.
  • "It’s supposed to get a reader’s attention and be ‘distracting’. The trick is to make it not too distracting!"

    I can't agree more. The line between subtlety and distraction is a thin one but if something completely disappears into the body of the blog, what's the point? As far as this particular implementation, I don't have any great issue with it. If someone really enjoys your blog, I don't see something like this as a deal breaker. Ultimately, the stats will tell if its serving its purpose.

    It's supposed to get a reader's attention and be 'distracting'. The trick is to make it not too distracting!

    I'm definitely going to try and get better buttons. I don't think it increase loadtime as the pages seem to be loading faster - I think because I've turned off the 'Share This' plugin which is a bit of a resource hog
  • it looks nice but you need to work on design ..and are you sure that it isn't increasing the load time of your site.
  • I don't like it man, sorry. I feel it is distracting.
  • I noticed it as soon as I scrolled down the page. I'm actually very interested in your results with it. Although it takes up very little space, I think the "animation" may prove to catch the attention of quite a few folks.
  • you should get some nice stylish designs, instead of those buttons.
    try deviantart or search around (something like Bill mention)
  • It is good but hurts my eyes a bit

    In what way?

    I don't think it will look annoying - as it's tucked away and it moves nice and slowly.

    @bill

    Top right would be less intrusive, but it's too far away from the action I think. I think I'm going to leave it where it is as at 800x600 and 1024x768 it's in a nice location. My theory is that ppl with bigger resolutions will know if they want to subscribe or not, without the need to be prompted
