Sony has just released firmware 1.90 for the PlayStation 3 in Japan. It is expected to be available for download for American and Canadian PS3 owners within the next couple of days.
So what is new and fixed?
The firmware contains primarily minor fixes and cosmetic improvements, but emoticon and wallpaper-lovers rejoice! You can now personalise the wallpaper on your PS3 XMB with a photo and about the emoticons, when you’re sending messages to friends on PLAYSTATION Network, you can now use emoticons. Also, another cool addition is, when an avatar is displayed during voice/video chat, the avatar will move in response to audio.
Also for the lazy PlayStation 3 owner – You can eject the disc with the push of a button.
Read on for the full list.
• Ability to rearrange games on the XMB
• Option menu now includes “eject disk”
• Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB
• XMB backgrounds
• Change the folder classification
• Emoticons
• Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz
• Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI
• Change PS3 video settings in-game
• “Bit Mapping” in the “Music Setting”
• Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick
• Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games

What feature would you like to see in the next firmware for Playstation 3? DivX support? Access to the XMB while playing? Equalizer for the music player? 1080p support for all games? Or something entirely different?
