Would You Use The WP-Backlinks WordPress Plugin?

A new WordPress plugin, WP-Backlinks, was released last week that I decided to check out as the plugin had an impressive name. The plugin’s name is a bit confusing as what the plugin actually does is help manage link exchanges, although I really think that most sites won’t need this plugin.

The WP-Backlinks plugin adds a form to each of your pages so that other site owners can let you know when they’ve created a link to your site. These entries then all appear within the admin section as well as the Page Rank of each page requesting a link, where you can decide whether or not to include a link back to that site, on the relevant page on your site.

Personally, I can’t see a practical use for this plugin as I doubt that many site owners have more link exchange requests than they can handle manually. Also, smaller blogs that would benefit the most from link exchanges aren’t going to get that many requests.

  • this is a terrific plug in...recommended for all
  • I'd say its a great plugin to use..it gives you the data of the site requesting the plugin  so that you dont have to research if you should approve the request or decline it
  • WP-Backlinks WordPress Plugin - good
  • @Alex: There is one key, If you are linking to good sites which have higher PR or might have chances to get better with time, I dont think google will mind. Linking to a better site with your same niche is always good.
  • Ashish: Thanks for your clarification. I hope that's the way Google sees it too. That's why I suggested nofollow in those links, to be safe :)
  • @Alex: Its not to boost. Blogging is no different from life. Like in life you support good people and make friends, back linking not only allows you to create new channels but its possible you might get linked back and attract more readers.
  • One question we need to ask is what is the purpose of backlinking? Is it to create outgoing links to boost the PageRank of another site? Even if that's not the intention, will Google think this way?

The safest thing to do is to use the nofollow attribute in backlinks.
  • As Ashish said, the best thing is to have speed linking.
  • I would agree with 3gp and Adam. This thing is past now. Best is through speed linking and that to relevant blogs.
  • Will be usefull only if you only exchange links with relevant blog. Keep it mind dont heavily depend on Link Exchange Google Dont love it.

build good link profile then use link exchange to leverage the power.
