Business Trip To San Fransisco In Mid-Sept – Who Should I Meet?

View Comments August 9, 2007 | Everton

I’m going to be making my first business trip to America in a very long time W/C 16th September, and I’ll be based in San Francisco. I’ve got 2 days of meetings lined up so far and I’m looking to fill at least another day with meetings, and then I’m going to spend the rest of time seeing some friends and shopping. For those of you who don’t know what I do during the days when I’m not pretending to be a problogger, I run the online operation for one of the largest ISPs in the UK.

I thought it be interesting to ask my readers who I should try and meet while I’m in America. So, who do you think I should meet while I’m on the West Coast? Which interesting online company would you want to meet if you were in my shoes? At the moment my diary is totally free, although I am going to start discussing with the rest of the team who I should meet next week.

What I’m looking for are companies that are developing online services and content that aren’t interesting only to early adopters, but that would be applicable and interesting to mass-market customers (I have a few million). Also, because of the size of my ISP, any companies we work with have to be able to deliver carrier-grade products in terms of scalability and support. I’m looking predominantly for PC based applications, although mobile applications are also a possibility.

If you’re just based in San Francisco then drop me a line – it’d be cool to meet some of you face 2 face. If there’s enough interest we might even arrange a bar meet, which might generate some great quotes like ‘Am I in a gay bar?‘!

  • @Andy

I was thinking of Twitter and Pownce, although I have to admit Pownce is more about just getting to meet Kevin Rose in a business setting to see what he's like
  • I might be stopping off in NY on the way back, but only to see a friend
  • Are you only doing west coast or are you touching down anywhere east? Multiply.com could be an interesting conversation for the customer base you describe -- I see them as the AOL/mass-market of social networks (and growing fast with that focus).
