Improve Alexa Rankings With ‘Better Alexa Redirect Plugin’

A few weeks I got very excited about the launch of an Alexa Redirect Plugin that added an Alexa Redirect to all links, in an attempt to increase Alexa Rankings. I very quickly removed the plugin after some readers pointed out that it would play havoc with the Google crawlers.

However, I’ve just read about the ‘Better Alexa Redirect Plugin’ on One Tip A Day, that corrects this problem by using Javascript to alter the links, which won’t affect the Google crawler:

The particular plugin scans the entire set of links on any page of your blog while someone is watching it and it adds a JavaScritp event to each of them, which upon clicking on the link (no matter is it a Left Click or a Right Click) will prefix it with the Alexa Redirect URL: in this way the person visiting your blog will visit the desired URL by forwarding the URL to Alexa.

Sounds like a winner to me and I’m currently giving it a go. My Alexa Rank has finally stabilised after some rocky weeks, so I’m hoping that this plugin will help me hit my goal of breaking 10,000.

  • Alexa redirect it's not working right now, more information here
  • @E - Are you still using this plugin? Did you notice any difference in your Alexa ranking?
  • You will not see the effect so quickly as it is linked to the Google's page ranking which is calculated once is 3 months (in approx). And noone knows if google still cares for pagerank stuff in their algo. But I can tell you for sure, your internal page weightage give by google will go down... As the internal linking gets affect.

For a simple example: how would you rank a best page from a site. The page would be the one which gets top number of links from other pages within your site. And with this plugin google see's no page linking to the other directly which will put a confusion in to the algorithm... And you'll defenitly see some effect with this plugin... Anyway I am not sure on these things as I haven;t tested it myself and its only a guess...

But would one be sure that its not going to effect the ranking in google short term or long term as I think google is a first priority
  • I am afraid on another thing now. This plugin as I understand gives different URL to the user but not Google, which is strongly agains googles scope. When a page shows different content to crawlers and real users google penalizes that site, as of I know. A strong proof, I read that a famous new site which was within 5000 in alexa was penalized for hiding some text from user but showing it to crawlers. Can some one give me clear detail on this?
  • @Shashank

possibly, but my traffic has gone up significantly over the same period. Also, I check my rank and traffic everyday so I'm familiar with my trends and the current Alexa trend isn't in line with the past.
  • Your Alexa may be down because your competitors are gaining heavily on traffic than your site as Ajay said do post the results of this plugin.
  • Ajay!!! You're alive!!!!
  • Do make a new post with the results of your experiment
  • You can always have a better rank and my rank has been creeping downwards over the last couple of months - down 3k, even though my traffic has been increasing
