Microsoft And Nokia Partnering For Online Music Service

It’s going to take a lot to mount a serious challenge to Apple iTunes’ dominance of the mobile music market, but I think Microsoft’s latest partnership with Nokia is a step in the right direction.

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it will install its music software in all high-end Nokia phones. Music will be downloaded straight to the mobile, without the need for a PC like the over-hyped iPhone.

I’m really looking forward to the next 12-18 months as I’m starting to sense that the mobile web is on the verge of really exploding into the mass market in the UK. Smartphones now account for nearly 15% of handsets in the UK and all that’s required for the handset manufacturers and network operators is to find the right services to ‘unlock’ these devices.

I imagine at all those Nokia phones will now have a new wallpaper: the HourGlass.

Oh- and for good measure, the screensaver will be a BlueScreen of Death!
