Google Phone Seen In The Wild In Boston

Lion

Well, it looks like the rumours about the Google phone are true and according to the Boston Globe the Google phone has been seen by a select number of Boston entrepreneurs.  Quite why Google felt the need to show the phone to this guys I have no idea-it’s not like Google needs to raise money!

Anyway, according to the story the phone will be simpler and not as flashy as Apple’s iPhone.  I have no idea why the iPhone is being used for comparison for just about every new phone these days.  I still think it’s functionality is over-rated and over-hyped.  Give me my trusty N95 any day, which for me is still the King of the Jungle when it comes to smartphones.

Google is bound to spam me with Adwords and offer me to combat it with Adsense! haha

Honestly, I don’t know why everyone is so excited for a google phone. I mean, in the realm of consumer electronics and consumer software, they are completely untested.

Everything they excel at consists of APIs and services that run on their own hardware, and their own software, and absolutely no customer support/hardware experience.

The only hardware I can think of is their little google machines that they sell to run on your own farm for running a site search on your own site. However, I know that at the company i work for, everyone hated the box, and ditched it as soon as possible, even though it was already paid for.

Yes, google has some of the brightest minds money can buy, but that does not mean that their first forray into the consumer electronics realm is really anything to be super excited about… unless its completely free.. and runs on magical ‘ad’ juice like all their other projects. anything less than that, and.. meh.

Oh, and you can be sure it will stay in ‘beta’ almost infinitely.. ala everything else they make.

Always cool with some fresh rumors. I think the hype is much less than the iPhone though.
