What Do You Think Of The New iPod Range?

As expected, Apple refreshed the entire iPod range and also added the new iPod Touch to the range.
The new iPod Touch utilises the iPhone user interface and has wireless networking and Mac OS X. It also of course includes the Safari browser, so if you’re looking for a nice smart PDA that also plays music, then the iPod Touch could be the one for you.
Personally, I think it doesn’t have enough storage and is too expensive. The iPod Touch costs $399 for a model with just 16GB of Flash memory -- the same price Apple is now charging for the 8GB iPhone, which I think is a better ‘deal’.
Other changes announced to the Apple iPod Range:
- 8GB iPhone price dropped by $200 to $399 and 4GB model removed
- Users can now create ringtones from songs they have purchased from the iTunes Music Store
- They can select up to 30 seconds of a purchased song to use as a ringtone, however it will cost an additional 99 cents
- In an update coming later this month, the iPhone will also get the ability to browse the complete iTunes Music Store, purchase and download tracks right to the phone
- New iPod nano with 2″ 320x240 LCD and doubled storage capacity of 4GB and 8GB. Now supports video and iPod games. Libraries browsed using CoverFlow. The 4GB silver model is $149 and the 8GB model, which are available in all colors, will cost $199.
- Main iPod now called iPod Classic, and storage upgraded to 80GB ($249) and 160GB ($349)
- New Red iPod Shuffle with 1GB of storage for $79.
Are you going to pick up one of the new iPods next week? What do you think about the new iPod Touch?
I’m not impressed by the iPod Touch, but I’ve just checked out the UK prices and the 160GB iPod Classic is £230, So I’m definitely going to pick up one in America next week as the with the strong dollar the same model will only cost me £175. I’m then going to put my 60GB 5G iPod in the new car permanently when I install the Dension Gateway 500, as 60GB is more than enough space for the tracks I want to listen to while I’m driving as I tend to use playlists rather than shuffle play whilst I’m driving so I don’t have to touch the iPod.
Although I have about 80GB of music that I want to sync (I have 120GB in total, but I don’t sync tracks on albums I don’t like to save space), so the 160GB iPod should just about hold my music collection once I’ve finished converting my CDs to the lossless format.
