Bloggers Cribs: Darren Rowse!!!
Welcome to the second edition of Bloggers Cribs!
Every week Bloggers Cribs features one blogging ’superstar’, who will let us briefly into their homes to share what gadgets and other electronic delights they have dotted around their home. If you’re looking for that cool gadget to spend your hard earned blogging dollars on, then look no further for inspiration!
This week on Bloggers Cribs, we have the original ‘problogger’ Darren Rowse. I wonder sometimes if Darren Rowse coined the phrase Problogger!
Darren runs a number of popular blogs, including Problogger, which probably features the best and broadest selection of blogging tips. Darren’s a keen photographer, so expect to see a camera or two amongst his toys.
Where do you live Darren?
I live in Melbourne Australia.
PC or Mac?
Mac - I switched 5 or so years back and have had a remarkably easy and glitchless ride - there was never any reason to return.
How many PCs do you own?
I have two active machines (not PCs though). The desktop is a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM.
The other is a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with 2GB of RAM. I use a 23 inch Apple Cinema screen with the PowerPC.
IE or Firefox?
I’m a big user of a number of Firefox plugins that enhance my blogging. I find it to be pretty stable, fast and flexible.
What mp3 player do you own?
iPod Video - 30GB. I probably over did it on the storage size but it’s been a good reliable little player.
How big is your mp3 collection?
2300 or so songs. I don’t use it a lot to be honest.
Object of Desire - what gadget would you buy if money was no option?
I’ve got most of what I need and want at the moment. I’m saving up for another 23 inch Apple Cinema screen - but I wouldnt say that I’m lusting over it.
I always look with interest at new Canon Lenses also - but have most of what I need in that department too.
When iPhones come to Australia I’ll probably be tempted in that department also.
EB - I have two 19″ monitors on my PC - I can’t imagine what a dual 23″ setup would be like! I think Darren should put a donation button on his site so he can get the second monitor for Christmas!
What has been your most outrageous gadget purchase?
My latest Canon DSLR - the Canon EOS 5D. Not cheap - but a wonderful camera.
How many TVs do you own? How big is your biggest screen?
We have two - both are pretty dodgy. Our big old CRT is 40 something inches but is in need of an upgrade.
What kit do you have in your main AV Centre?
It’s very simple and basic - mainly on lend from family who are overseas. I have no idea what brands or specs it all has
Xbox 360, Wii or PS3?
Xbox 360 - but a friend is lending it because I rarely played it.
What game are you currently playing?
none - too busy
Favourite game of all time?
I got into Ghost Recon for a while.
What gadget are you looking to buy in the next year?
Possibly a new TV but I’m yet to really do any research. Also a new LCD for my desktop.
What mobile do you own? Why did you choose that model?
Nokia N95 - it was the ‘hottest’ new phone at the time. I like that it has wifi, is 3G etc - but rarely use those features
What gadgets do you carry around in your gadget bag?
Phone, Laptop and Camera (all listed above). The camera is a bit heavy for everyday use though.
If you could keep only one gadget, what would it be?
Probably my laptop - only because with a computer I wouldn’t have a job.
I hope you enjoyed reading this week’s edition of Bloggers Cribs. Next week we will having a peek into the life of Leo Babauta from Zen Habits
Next week I’ll be featuring another celeb blogger. Let me know if there’s any one you want to see in a future Bloggers Cribs, and Everton’ll will try and fix it.

Great interview. It looks like I’m going to be waiting on this series too heh.
Comment by Micah on 12 September 2007:
Interesting interview. He (Darren) has a video of his “office” on his website. I saw it a few days ago…it shows off some of the stuff he’s talking about in this interview. Sounds like he works hard with not a lot of free time. But, I’m sure you do too.

This is a really interesting feature Everton, good to hear what big-name bloggers have in terms of computing and gadgets!
If only to give you ideas of what to spend cash on….maybe not so good a feature then!
