Shoot-em-ups Making A Comeback On Xbox Live Arcade?
It looks like I’m going to have more to look forward to playing on my Xbox 360 than Halo 3.
My favourite games genre when I was growing up was shoot-em-ups like Raiden, Slapfight, Nemesis and R-type. I loved these games but they seemed to fall out of favour when the consoles became popular. I’m hoping to move to a bigger place next year and one project I want to take on is buidling an arcade cabinet to house a MAME emulator running all my favourite games.
However, it looks like shoot-em-ups could be making a comeback on Xbox Live Arcade. Kotaku has tracked down a number of cool shoot-em-ups, including Triggerheart Exelica and Ikaruga. The latest is Hudson’s Omega Five pictured below, that looks just gorgeous.

I can’t wait to make to play Omega Five! I don’t know what it is about shoot-em-ups, but over the (many) years of playing them I seem to have developed certain ways of flying, that allow me to create gaps in the missiles that I know will be there because of the way I have drawn fire to other areas of the screen. Anyone watching me play would think my moves unbelievable, but somehow I just know where the gaps are going to be.
Any other shoot-em-up players out there?

Right here buddy! The last one I downloaded though was Gradius on the Wii VC. On the 360, I’ve been way too consumed with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
