Did You Have Any Problems Upgrading To WordPress 2.3?

I was just about to upgrade my blog to WordPress 2.3, but luckily I decided to upgrade a test blog first because I wasn’t sure what was going to happen to the tags I’d placed on posts using the Simple Tagging Plugin.

I’m glad that I did, as although I managed to import my Simple Tagging tags, there’s no way for me to manage them.

The most worrying aspect of my test WordPress 2.3 upgrade, was that my categories disappeared from my sidebar. Has anybody else had any upgrade problems? I think I’m definitely going to stay on 2.2 for a while, at least until the tagging functionality improves.

  • I had a couple of problems - firstly, the XML sitemap generator was causing problems, but if you upgrade to the latest version the problem is solved. The second problem was an issue with the post editing page, which I remedied by... well, actually I didn't. I only post posts, so it's not that big a deal.
  • There just isn't enough new functionality in 2.3 for me to justify going through the expected pain of upgrading. It's not often that I'm not one of the first to upgrade!
  • A lot has changed in WP2.3 and IMO,this is one of the most problematic upgrades ever.

You will need to disable all your plugins and pray that you theme is 2.3 compliant before making the jump.

I've lost out on a few plugins... and I really hope the tagging functionality improves quick!
  • My blog stopped loading completely when I upgraded to WP 2.3 and when I downgraded to the previous version my categories were gone too. I had to manually restore them.
  • i will prefer waiting a bit more a lot of people facing probs in upgrading
  • I was just about to test it locally but it seems to have major issues. I think I'll wait a bit more.
  • It's weird what i read here. Nothing happened to my categories, they were displayed like they had to. Did you use the category to tag converter from Manage > Categories ? In case you did, that might be the problem.

I usually don't upgrade my blog with the latest version of wordpress, but wait for two versions to be released and the use the second one most recent. This way you should not have any problems. With 2.3 i was a little hasty i admit, but things turned out to be just fine
  • I had a couple of problems too , but it didn't took more than half an hour to solve them.

Mainly, there were plugins problems. I had to update most of my plugins to the latest versions. And there were also problems related to tagging, having to modify a couple of lines in the code to display them properly with the new system.

I do have one plugin that still does not work, the one i use for my Sitemap page. It's called DD sitemap generator. Anyone have any idea on how can i fix it? Thanks
  • This update is causing me nightmares! I tried a very cautious upgrade of another blog at my job board. It totally crashed the database, this time hosted at doteasy.com

I'm leaving my other 8 blogs at 2.2 until this beta-like 2.3 gets stable.
