Update On New Eureka Theme For Site

Hot off the press is a new screenshot of the new theme I have commissioned for this site. This will be the last screenshot, as although it’s not perfect, I think it will be easier to make changes to a live site.

The theme is being built by SmartPixelDesign, and so far I’ve been very happy with their work.

Connected Internet New Design

Let me know if you have any comments on the latest theme screenshot - read this post to learn what I’m trying to achieve with this theme. The things I want to continue working on are:

  1. The fonts need to be bigger than in the current theme
  2. I’m not happy with the new logo - I need to find one I like. I do like the header background but overall the header is too big and is pushing the fold down
  3. The search entry field needs to be bigger
  4. ‘Money Makers’ needs to look better
  5. I need to see if I can create a tagcloud that I like (and if I have space)
  6. logo is making header too big - needs to be smaller (I need to find a logo I like as well)
  7. Maybe make the site name a different colour to make it stand out
  8. I like the sidebar colour, but I think the sidebar modules should have diff background to white
  9. Experiment with colours to brighten it up a bit e.g use the yellow/orange link colour used in the footer for post titles and links?
  10. I’m not sure if I like the grey background under each post - maybe a paler colour?

That’s it for now. If you have any comments, ideas, suggestions on how the next iteration can be better then please leave a comment - I really want this to be collaborative project.

    Hey Everton,

Glad to see the new designer is progressing nicely. I’m not a huge fan of the colours used. Blacks and greys tend to bore me a little. Perhaps a little splash of colour or a little bit of uniqueness would help to keep your site fresh in people’s minds.

Also the logo is not great. It looks like a replica of the Apple Safari browser’s logo. I notice you comissioned the project on GAF. There are a number of very talented logo designers on there who will design you a new logo for around $40-50. It’s worth thinking about as not all web designers can design great logos.

I look forward to seeing the finished design, which will hopefully give you the look that you desire.

I’m about thinking of doing a logo competition - $100 to the winner.

I agree about the blacks and greys, hence looking for like you say ‘a splash of colour’ to jazz it up

I think you should have a good logo and yes the fonts needs to be a little big.As for color i like the present color. As for logo you can also have it on some freelancing site like getafreelancer or scriptlance and there you can get some very good logo designed at a very good price.

logo competition is a great idea…. the colours are looking elegant.

It’s growing on me I think the logo competition might be a good idea if you’re not sure what you’re after.

Agree John going to do it, as I want my designer to worry about the main design rather than wasting time on graphics. Plus it could be fun.

    oooh looks absolute snazzy!

the header navigaton however has plenty of space

maybe reduce the size of logo or add a google text link to make it ‘fill up’

    just a suggestion :)

The layout is very clean and flows very nicely. I like the black and grays but what do I know, my site is brown!
