Man Gets Jailtime For Sending Facebook Request

Beware of who you add to your Facebook friends!

Valleywag picked up on the story of a UK man who was given 10 days in jail, after sending his wife a facebook invite, because he had been given a no-contact order after harassing her with text messages and phone calls.

I’ve been working hard to reduce the number of facebook friends I have, but it has got harder as now I’m getting invites from friends of friends who I don’t know. One lady who I didn’t know sent me an invite the other day because we had 10 mutual friends, so she said ‘I’m sure we’ll meet someday!’.

One clever trick I’ve developed is to accept invites, and then to delete people a few days later as they don’t get a notice to say that I’ve deleted them. Nobody’s noticed so far, but if anybody does, I’ll just say it must have been a facebook error ;-) I’m up to around 200 facebook friends and I think I’m going to keep my friends list at around this number, unlike networks like LinkedIn where I’ll accept invites from just about anybody.

That’s insane! I wonder how modern social networking sites fit into the traditional law books? (I don’t know about UK, but atleast here in India… it doesn’t fit)

I too heard the one Orkut story, and couldn’t believe it. But it sometime happens. Now a days every social network is more used for marketing with spamming messages and ruins the complete system and makes it useless.
