Drool over the Mighty Samsung SGH-E950

Some days back, my brother just gifted me with a Samsung SGH-E950. And to think I just got a new Samsung E600 phone the other week. It’s raining gadgets over here!
This new toy is the upgraded version of the E900. Both are compact sliders and boast touch-sensitive nav controls. The original E900 sported 3.0MP camera, FM radio, bluetooth and java games. What more can its big sibling offer. A host!
Okay, this new baby measures 98×46x16.5mm which makes it a bit fat for a slider. It weighs in at 89g- about 5g less than most phones actually thinner than it is!
The unit is sexy, an outer inish composed of glossy black metal and dark plastic. Its pleasant to touch, caress and coax. Held between the thumb and forefinger, it exudes elegance. What’s more when propped against the ear? Do I hear oooohhs and ahhhs? It’s bling bling for the tech savvy!
The touchpad feature enables the phone to be slick smooth, with no keys jutting out. While sensitive, it’s more maneagable than the E900’s. There’s an additional feature to the touchpad: a sub-touch nav panel called Dynamic Adaptive Control Pad which changes the input keys according to meu requirements. Folks who like customizing the preset menu will love this bonus! What I did with my unit was to ser Create Message, Music Player, Bluetooth and Calendar as shortcuts. With a mere swipe on the pad, I access or change these apps easily. The fun gets better Slide the phone and be ejoy a nifty alphanumeric keypad. They’re flat, large and easy to sms and play games with. Commute a lot? No prob. Enjoy java games for hours on end!
I relished the camera function. On my recent trip to Hongkong, it snapped shots, ran the camcorder and edited pix generated by the 3.2 MP sensor powered by flash. At max resolution of 2048×1536 pixels, the pix made delightful wallpaper for my PC. Just don’t try printing the shots. They suck! Leave them onscreen.
I did try taking shots of documents and books- a habit I have at books stores. No dice. Lacking autofocus, the camera can’t capture text from magz, books and maps.
The E950 runs of 60MB internal memory and holds a slot for a MicroSD card. Storage for music and pix will never be a problem. I love the Music Player function. This app looks and operates so much like Itunes; imagine, you can filter tracks by album, title and even fashion a playlist! Sound quality resonates wonderfully even in loudspeaker mode.
Considering it’s got a very thin batt, the phone chugs on surprisingly long. Tinker with all the apps and you’ll go a whole day on this baby. But use it for the occasional call and sms and the phone coasts up to five days. It’s great for out of town trips- just remember to bring the charger!
