How To Meet Your Friendster Crush

View Comments December 18, 2007 | Joseph Plazo

Social networking sites are a dime a dozen these days. The average service pops up, gets a few thousand members, then poof! Gone in sixty seconds. Few boast the staying power of Myspace, Facebook and Friendster.  I surmise that the failures provided no unique selling proposition. Think about it;  mere clones of incumbents like Friendster offer no compelling reason to switch.

Yesterday, I  stumbled across a new service that may just join the pantheon of exemplary social networking sites.  This one’s got strong indications of getting BIG!

Okay, pause for a moment and imagine a social networking service that’s got feet- nope, not physical feet, but rather, a unique mobility  that connects you to friends and friends of friends via your cell phone. Welcome to Dodgeball!

Dodgeball offers something no other network does, mobile interconnectivity. Picture yourself in your fave place (say, a nightclub). You then send a message to your friends to meet up there. Their friends in turn receive a similar message (introducing you as a common friend) and an invitation. Suddenly, you got a crowd! All tromping in to see you.

Then it gets better. When you tag someone as a crush, the network sends you a tip to spruce up in your Louis Vuittons when your sweetie is in the area! You’ll always be your best. Never be caught off guard again. How about that? A chance to  score friends in the real world and not just in a computer window.

The service relies heavily on the mobile network, so get out there and check if your location is covered by this exciting service.

Anyone raring to sign up?

  • spring time for everton :D
  • @Marcus

Nope, no reunion. She buzzed me on Facebook and after lots of messages, IMs and phone calls we finally met and we've been going strong a few months now
  • Hmmm... it was a reunion?
  • I 'met' my girlfriend on facebook, although we were in the same class at school nearly 20 years ago.
  • i met my girlfriend thru friendster as well. And she's got IQ 2 points above Einstein
  • I don't know about other social networking sites... but you know... I met my wife through Friendster. :)
  • It's a nice idea but just like Facebook has its privacy concerns, so does this. This kind of thing can only work with an easy way of managing one's privacy settings
  • It does! But only the in the good ole US of A
  • Wow, another Google property I've never heard of. This actually sounds kind of cool. I may have to give it a test run, to see if it actually works well.
  • Damn, I was thinking about selling my social network to Google :)

Well, I have to invent something new.... ;) MoDazzle is a cool idea, maybe I'll use the same thing on my community, well I first need to build one ;)
