Broadband Installation - Caribbean Style!

I’ve been staying at my parents home in Jamaica for the last couple of days, and until today when they got broadband installed, it was a painful reminder of how slow and tedious dialup connections were. I don’t think I’ve used dialup for around 6 years - I don’t think I even own a modem cable anymore.
I’m so glad that I decided to purchase broadband for my parent’s Christmas present this year. Prior to today they were caught in an awful catch 22 situation -they couldn’t find things to do on the internet they liked because it was too slow, and they wouldn’t buy broadband because they couldn’t find things to do.
It brought a huge smile to my face to catch my Dad this evening surfing through a few English cricket sites, without me even showing him how to do it. My mum even wants to buy a laptop now as well as I got them a cheap wireless router and she likes the idea of being able to surf on the sofa, rather than having to go and use the study PC.
The broadband connection didn’t come cheap, but it was definitely worth it. I’m paying $USD 49.95/month now for a 1Mbps connection, which would be daylight robbery in almost every other country. Especially, when you can get 20Mbps in the UK for $70/mth.
How much are you paying for your connection and how fast is it? Let’s see who’s getting the best deal!

Jamaica is my parent’s home country, but I was born in England - it’s more a case of why Freeze in the adopted country when the sun is always shining at home!
