I was searching for that film for atleast 6 months and never had a chance to buy or download one around. Finally decided to download using a Torrent, which took around 5 days as there were very few to seed the movie. Finally I understood the film is worth it. :)

Yeah, everyone is complaining about Leopard's stability. I certainly haven't had a single problem on my PPC Power Mac.

Hard to imagine how much better the MacOS could be over its current incarnation (Leopard). I spent all week trying to crash the system on my MacBook Pro... it just won't yield.

Unlike Vista. It crashes even without you trying.

Sigh.

I was a BeOS fan back in 2000. It dual booted with my Win Me, then eventually WINXP. Lord, did you know you can watch 6 simultaneous videos without stutter on this OS?

Too bad driver support remained an itch and killed the product

I used to tinker with BeOS a bit. If they would have had more time to refine it, it may have really turned into something special. My one big gripe with it was that it wasn't designed as a multi-user OS from the start. That killed it's chances to succeed in the areas where it could have.

I watched the development of the new AmigaOS and MorphOS with interest. I almost bought a Pegasos machine so I could play with MorphOS, but alas it died stillborn like so many promising projects. I think time has run out on the new Amiga as well. Too bad these projects were spearheaded by people who drove them into the ground.

For those who ever had an interest in NeXT, Mac OS X is all it was and more. There is also the open source GNUStep project as well. Unfortunately, the state of GNUStep appears to be about the same as it was ten years ago. By the time they actually have a fully functioning, independent system from it, no one will care because time will have passed it by. Still, for someone who doesn't have a Mac or a system capable of running OPENSTEP, GNUStep might provide a glimpse of what the NeXT experience was like.

For anyone who has avoided getting a Mac because of the steep buy-in: I will tell you that as a chronic, annual new machine builder when it comes to PC's, you will probably hang on to a Mac for 5 years before you feel like you have to upgrade. It takes a bit of the edge off the buy-in price. The only people I will flat out not recommend Macs to are PC gamers. You will miss a lot of games as a Mac owner if an Xbox360 won't do as a replacement for your PC gaming needs.

I enjoyed this post, thanks for connecting the dots for me. I've never been a member of the Mac community (as of yet) but I followed quite abit of the NeXT news back in the day and while I knew it had somehow been integrated into Apple's realm I had no idea of the particulars.

Nice to see a mention of BEOS as well ... now that, indeed was an impressive product ... if only MSFT had scarfed them up we might have a real OS to compete with Apple. Proof, yet again, that quality in software has no direct relationship to success.
