MyBlogEarnings For December 2007

December saw the end of my first full year of trying to make money from this blog. Although December wasn’t a strong month, when I look back at the growth I achieved over 2007 I’m very happy.

If you’re new to the blog my old MyBlogEarnings reports are available, as well as my Guide To Making Money Online With Blogging. The guide is worth checking every month or so, as I update it every couple of weeks or so.

December like November was a very quite month. I decided that I needed to have a proper holiday, which involved me jetting off for two weeks. Hopefully the break will set me up for a strong start to 2008!

Earnings Report For December 2007

Note: Figures for last month are in brackets.

  • Google Adsense: $ 2,498 ($3,661)
  • Intellitxt: $1,601 ($1,912)
  • Text-Link-Ads: $1,709 ($1,810)
  • Tribal Fusion: $1,333 ($1,344)
  • Direct Ad Sales: $ 360 ($510)
  • Linkworth: $168 ($168)
  • ReviewMe: $280 ($150)
  • Sponsored reviews: $163 ($0)
  • Feedburner FAN: $81 ($80)
  • TNX $0 ($69)

Grand Total: $8,192 ($9,705)

So, yet another fall, but it was expected. I’m hoping that going back ‘full-time’ this month will help raise my earnings to previous levels.

Review Of The Year

Total Earnings For 2007

  • Google Adsense: $44,406
  • Direct Ads: $17,295
  • Text Link Ads: $13,234
  • Intellitxt: £12,493
  • Tribal Fusion $8,326
  • Fan: $2,600
  • Other: $4,886

Grand Total: $103,240

I just managed to scrape into the six figure blogger category. This time last year when I only made $2,259, I never really thought this would be possible, and I’m glad to say that I’m still curious to see how far I can take this site. My recent holiday in Jamaica has given me a much needed incentive to push on to try and hit my earnings target for going full-time, as it will allow me to leave grey and very cold London, and move somewhere nice and warm and work on the beach with my laptop!

The key lessons I learnt in 2007 are:

  • Keep posting as the traffic will always grow
  • Listen to your readers - they’ll tell you what topics to write about
  • Never assume you have maxed out sources of income, as new ones will always appear
  • Make it easy for potential advertisers to contact you
  • Constantly review ad positions
  • Never be afraid to remove underperforming ad schemes

I hope that the amount of information I have shared here will encourage you to do the same (An alternative way is to tag your post ‘MyBlogEarnings‘ so that your details can be found easily on Technorati), or provide you with food for thought. The more info we share with each other, the more we will all hopefully make.If you are looking for some quick tips on generating more income from your site then check out my Guide To Making Money Online With Blogging.

    Congrats Everton! Yes, I’m congratulating you even though your profits slipped a little bit. In my eyes, if you’re able to make even a “little bit” of money from blogging its a success so what you’re doing and what you’ve been able to do is just phenomenal. And double congrats on getting into the 6 figure category!

    Impressive! I’ve read blogger reports with spiralling incomes after google changed their adsense code. You’re the opposite. Seems total revenues went up

  3. #3

    Great work, Everton. That is a serious increase in revenue!

    What are your plans with TLA for ‘08? Patrick Gavin recently confirmed over at my site that they have no intentions of adding no-follow to their links which means they’re in direct opposition to Googles guidelines. Are you going to continue using them this year?

  4. #4

    Good work Everton! It’s still a very impressive amount. December is always a little lower. Making over $100,000 last year is definitely a milestone.

    @Mike

    Yes I will continue using TLA. I think Google have already reduced the page rank of those sites selling links to try and stop them doing so. If I do actually get delisted in the future, then I will stop using TLA and use the webmaster contact form to let Google know.

    $100,000 a year is simple amazing. Congratulations!

    This is a fact that I expected for this month. I don’t know why you are allowing this happen. Come on Everton, January should be an awesome hike in your calender. This year your target should be $1,000,000. I dont think its hard for you, if you put some pain. :) Anyway my wishes for your success.

    @smackall

    I wouldn’t say I allowed it to happen - running this blog and doing a full-time job, especially given I started a new job in November, and trying to have a life isn’t easy! I will get back into the routine this month.

    $1m would be a very nice target. If I get anywhere near that amount I’ll be very happy!

    hi,
    It is amazing.
    How do you get so much adsense clicks?

  10. #10

    Nicely done. Six figure blogging sounds good. Congrats!

    Congrats on having another successful month (I wish I could do half as well!) and well done overall on a great year Everton!

    What do you think is the most important key to your success, has it been your search engine rankings in getting the people through the door so to speak?

  12. #12

    Very amazing and congratulation. Bery nice done again Everton.
    I wish I can earn 1/4 of your monthly income.^^

    Ah, I know you are irritated by me often saying blog, blog and blog… even after you already said u have other day jobs to do. :) But I am not seeing a CI which I saw when I came here. The essence of CI is going down slowly. May be its only my opinion.

    @smackall

    No, I agree that the posting freq has fallen dramatically from 3-5 per day, to less than one per day. Don’t worry it will rise again this week - I was on hols in Dec and last week I spent a lot of time trying to finish this theme

    @E
    Do you think the key to your traffic and success was the 3 to 5 articles per day? What would you say were the top practices that allowed you to generate the type of traffic and subscriptions you did over the past 12 months?

    13 Blogs und ihre Einnahmen im Dezember 2007…

    Auch im neuen Jahr gibt es fast nichts schöneres als über den Tellerrand zu schauen, was die anderen Blogger so verdienen. Diesmal sind es 13 Blogs, deren Einnahmen ich gefunden habe. Nachdem mein Blog-Dezember ja eher mies ausgefallen ist,…

    I’m proud to be a member of a six-figure blog ;) I’ll certainly do what I can in order for CI to get closer to the goal in 2008!

    Just tell me, is there some relation between number of posts and unique visitors? Something like 100 posts=200 visitors daily, 500 post 1000? I know it is not easy to say, but how was your site developing?

    I wouldn’t say so, and definitely not for this site. A high proportion of my traffic comes from Google, Stumbleupon etc and these readers tend to read just the post that pulled them in. If I’m ‘lucky’ they’ll leave a comment, read a second post, subscribe to the RSS etc. So for me, yes writing more posts increases the number potential of Google/SU hits, but only the good posts will pull in the big traffic.

    [...] on, blogging is well and truely here everyone seems to have at least one blog, and seeing some bloggers earnings reports makes you understand [...]

    So - I guess I will just come right out with it… would you guys please visit the ol’ blog *grins* I would love to have a shote at traffic like ol’ @E here… :) No? … Dang…

    Keep up the good work E!

    Nice theme what somebody earn with their blogs. I’m faszinated that somebody can live by writing in blogs. Why they get 100$ for 1000 Views, what they do to geht this. It’s amasing.

  24. #24

    @Robert

    I think very few sites get CPMs of $100! This site gets around $25-30 I think.

    When january Blog Earnings post will be submitted? Waiting very much :)

  26. #26

    I´m very impressed…I don´t even make a dollar/week

    Hey Everton,

    I’ve not seen any updates for 2008.  Are you still doing income updates?

    @Xtradosh

    I stopped the earnings reports as I’m getting close to the period where I might be quitting my day job, and I felt uncomfortable telling the world how much I make.  In the past I didn’t mind as it was my 2nd income
