Facebook Asked To Remove Scrabulous

Although I haven’t seen any figures for the amount of revenue that popular Facebook apps are making, I’m sure there are some serious cashcows out there. One that undoubtedly was making money was Scrabulous, which is based on the popular Scrabble game. Scrabulous is rumoured to be making the owners $25k a month, with over 500k users per day.

That may all come to an end soon. Lawyers for Hasbro and Mattel, who between them own the worldwide rights to Scrabble, have asked Facebook to remove the game claiming that it infringes on their copyright.

Occasionally in my spare time I’ve been trying to coming up with ideas for Facebook apps. This was triggered by an IM from Ibrahim asking for ideas, as he was going to try building a few apps. The Facebook API apparently is quite easy to utilise, so my ‘plan’ is to hire a freelancer to produce an app, once I come up with my killer idea.

Obviously, producing a copy of a popular board game is now not a good option….. ;-) Does anybody else have any good ideas for a Facebook app?

Facebook apps are definitely worth investing on. Facebook receives A LOT of signups per day, and since you already have a readership, your advertising is one step ahead already. Good luck!

What about Battleships? It’s a lovely game… and I don’t think there’s copyright on it
