Remember Next2Friends? Well the service is now out of beta, although they are still giving away a FREE iPod Touch and a FREE Dell laptop every month to one lucky new user. They’ve also asked me to promote that in addition to the usual monthly giveaway, Next2Friends are also giving away an extra iPod touch to the user with the most registered friends on 14th Feb.

Who are Next2Friends? Well, they are a UK based company that delivers the usual social networking experience but with a nice mobility twist. Next2Friends offer a number of services that allow users to share and interact in real-time, including:

• Intelligent Proximity Matching: Once a profile is setup with the usual likes, dislikes, favourite shows etc the service will let you know if other Next2Friends users come into close proximity with. When you next sign into your account you’ll receive notification of all the people you passed throughout the day who share your likes and dislikes. If you want to meet them then that’s up to you!
• Ask-A-Friend: The ask a friend service allows you to send an SMS or MMS to your friends quickly to run on the spot polls e.g. should I buy this top? Who will win the game on Saturday? etc.
• Live Streaming Video: Again they are trying to capture mobile/real-time content by allowing users to stream videos directly to the site

I can see where Next2Friends are heading with their product development. Rather than developing PC based services, they are focusing on creating services that allow users to interact in real-time wherever they are via their mobile phones. I think they are could be onto a winner as who wants to wait until they get home to post or share a video?
